thank you so much for the abundance of useful advice. i'm new here and this community is great. i'm on the west coast so yes, i will be heading up to places like laguna seca, so i need to deal with elevation change. among all the advice on this thread, i think the big rig is something i can only aspire to at this point. the trailex is a definite option regardless of what i choose to tow with. i'm leaning towards a 3/4 ton pickup for the tow vehicle.

I have a 2012 F-350 long bed Lariat package for sale. It has flip-ball hitch installed in the bed for WHEN you switch to enclosed gooseneck.

to op
if u want Trailex , get open
if I want enclosed and intend to track, enclosed trailer is well built but a poor choice

since u in ca, we will b at TH with GGR in march
we wi gave three TPD of different size and trim. come look

if u want truck, DRL's f350 is reallynice

I believe what mooty means, as you may not yet fully understand mooty-speak, is that enclosed TRAILEX is well built but a poor choice.

Certainly cheaper if you buy used but good luck finding one. The standard 'big garage' version of a toy hauler tops out at 16' on a 45' long vehicle. Mine was custom built with 20' and the rig is 49' in total. It took me a year to find one like this (used) and I continue to look and have not seen another one in the several years since then. There may be another one out there but it will be like finding a needle in a haystack.

Plan to tow with f250 or so

f250 will not be optimal for a 44'
try 1 ton dually

a 44 GN has 36 Clr floor
u need at least 30' Clr. that means literally bumper to bumper, no space for other items on the floor. and I do mean NOTHING else in the floor, not ur duffle bag, no tires, nothing
and over 28' I wouldn't pull with bumper pull, u need GN

Yeah would need to GN anyway to get the 15k gross weight (only 10k on bumper in CA)

Looked at stackers, but the truck forum guys say big no no even with 1ton duallys given the height / wind / CG issues

Might be too much for me to pull something like that

Thanks for the info guys
