Great threads and now that I'm moving to Portland and still want to track with CFRA in CA logistics is on my mind. Sounds like a decent used Diesel and either a open FL or enclosed >24' is a good start for me.

I'll post back here after first long haul in a few weeks with my 2013 cayenne diesel + featherlite 3110. A few good hills along the way, very curious to mileage, how it handles. Last trip to Norcal w/o tow got nearly 33mpg average, towing empty trailer back got about 27mpg. Thinking low 20s which I think is pretty decent.

Not the power setups others have here but it keeps things pretty simple (which I like).

Sounds like a great setup. I'm thinking a nice SUV to replace my current DD (plug-in Fusion) as HOV stickers don't do a thing for me in OR. Diesel or CTT and a FL could be a the right overall answer. Looking forward to hearing your review Spyerx

if you are planning on cFRA from OR, open trailer wont work. you will do it for anyear or to, then, you will move to enclosed. trust me.

chris will be happy towing. it's relaxing. turn on the vacuum amp on the pepper and just enjoy the ride. he will then go home, bitch and moan that he has to unload the precious rig at 10pm.... then he will sell the FL to buddy barney since martin's prius can only tow 6000 lbs ()... then chris will be towing enclosed

How do you get in/out of the blue spyder when in the trailer? Don't see a side door.

Originally, through the window or squeeze out through the door. After the second time of doing that in the RS, I had a Warn winch mounted the trailer's floor frame to pull it in. With the handy remote, it is a simple one person operation that takes ~10-15 seconds to pull it in.

I remove the winch cable from tow hook before ratcheting the car down for transport. I've seen others use it a tie-down but not a good idea!

I do leave mine in place, however, I take all the slack off it so that it's not in tension (and I don't trip over it later). This saves me a few seconds later when I have to winch it out of the trailer.

How do you get the car out of the trailer?

I have a Dodge Mega Cab diesel dually and a 24' Featherlite trailer. Here in Colorado you need two things, brakes and power for the mountains. The Dodge has tow/haul, select shift trans, electric brakes standard, 800 ft lbs of torque and an exhaust brake.
The f
Featherlite has electric brakes, extended low profile ramps, electric winch and optional heavy duty axles and tires.
I also use the truck to pull my 10K lb. boat.
After 46 years of towing trailers and boats I always go overkill and never worry about whether i'll get to my location.

Release a little tension in cable, very slight nudge and back it down with reverse direction of winch. I typically stop winch and drive off when the car doors have cleared the cables on trailer door.

Amen. A wise man once told me to buy a rig based on stopping capability not pulling. If it's capable of stopping you safely, it very likely can pull. Not true the other way around especially in non- flat geographies.

I'm hoping Chris goes the dulley/2-car enclosed trailer route next year so that way I can subsidize his cost by paying him to take care of my Arrive & Drive needs. Besides being stubborn, I can be lazy too....the thought of loading and loading a trailer does not sound appealing at all and besides I'm not all that mechanically inclined.
