- No PCCB
- Sound package plus
- Dynamic cornering lights
- 9,000 miles
- 1 owner
- I checked all documents: all services and campaigns performed (including 20k service), NO DME events
- Car is reportedly immaculate; all OEM, never tracked as well

The asking was $146k and I offered $138k. They countered with $139k on thursday.

I said I'd think about it; It sold this morning. Did I make a mistake?
I think you made a mistake..but you will find another one...but probably have to count on spending a bit more then 138k.

200k is a lot for a 997.2GT3RS...but the arguments brought up here are also logic/valid...how many of these are left on the market? probably less then we have fingers on our hand..so...

If someone thinks that the arrivial of the 991 GT3 will change anything on the price level..then I would call you a fool..but maybe Im wrong. In the 991 GT3 section I already caused enough distortion by saying that the 991 GT3 car will have issues...and that it wont meet factory claimed performance. I won that bet..

So here is my second one: in 5 years time any 991 Gt3 (regular version) will be worth less then a equally maintained 997.2GT3. Im not talking about the997.2 GT3RS - for me this is out of the question. I would predict 991 GT3s to fall quickly down to around 100k (in 5-7 years half of that, too much complex tech - just look at the BMW rear wheel steering cost disasters). I dont think that a 997.2 GT3RS will ever go below 100K again.

Time will tell..
PS: the most underrated car so far I would say is the GT2RS..but its day will also come

The orange .1RS will be a good car to own, drive, and possibly appreciate over time. Could be wrong about the .2RS but I don't think so.
you do have a point here also..could happen that the 997.1 GT3RS would overtake the 997.2 GT3RS...but all this would happen above 100K...

4.0..difficult to say...but look what I was speculating about the GT2RS..compared to the GT2RS the 4.0 is too expensive..

Very helpful dialogue. Lots of talking to myself this afternoon!

Anyone have any insight on the car on ebay now 2011 GT3 RS has about 10K.

Thank you.

Best time to buy good CPO .2 RS was early 2012. PCNA website would have almost 10 on any given day back then. Now you are lucky if there are couple of them. I sat on my *** back then expecting it to dip below 120, but it never did.

So what did you do? Did you get one? If so, please share the details.

I'm new to the forum and to the general Porsche marketplace so I'm trying to get a feel for what constitutes a wise purchase.

Seems to me this logic goes against history. First and last models tend to have highest value. The 997.2 is the last of Mezger engines, last of the 6 speed GT cars, last of the shorter wheel base. Also maybe last GT3 version to races at Le Mans. Speculating that they will move to a mid engine 960 in 2016 :-)

I disagree with the .1 better than .2
Owned both 07 GT3 (non RS) an now .2 RS
The 2011 3.8 RS is superior in every way...more power, torque, much better gearing, doesn't leak oil like EVERY .1 and most importantly, MUCH more stable handling...no rear bump steer, more downforce, etc. The .2 has its own issues but P solved the handling and RMS issues with the .2

Don't forget 2011 was last year for any manual/Mezger GT3, and other than engine update and carbon fenders, 3.8 and 4.o are essentially the same car. I think 4.o will always be worth MUCH more than 3.8, and 3.8 will be worth more than 3.6. However as with any "old" Porsche, condition/mileage/originality will trump all (ask the guy with a numbers matching, original paint 73 911S).

I instead got a very nice low mileage CPO 7.2 GT3 (non RS) in the May of this year.

Waiting for nice low milage .2 RS to dip below 120k seemed futile at that point - they keep getting rarer and prices keep creeping up.

thank you.
i said that many times. but tired of arguing 3.6 vs 3.8.
3.6 is great
3.8 is better and also a tad more $$$

.1RS vs .2RS

The power and torque numbers are very close.

Will agree with the better handling and corrected leak issues.

With the corrected bump steer and leak issues, the .2RS introduced pressure plate issues, right?

I can't see much else wrong with the .2RS which is why I want one. The rarity of the model is also appealing to me.

In short, .2RS (3.8) issues are airbox (Fixed under warranty), CL (ditto), LWFW clutch issue (but can happen to .1RS as well, ask Sharkey) and cam bolts (ditto).

I cant stress enough the diff in handling; had 2 sets of tires and razor sharp alignment on my 07 GT3 but never felt stable (and other .1's I drove were the same, aligned with Pete Stout's comments in Excellence review). Every time I drive my .2RS I am shocked at how planted it feels, almost like you can feel REAL downforce even at street speed. Gearing helps a lot as well. Love it.

As another Atlanta owner--who had 08 GT3, 11 3.8RS and 11 4.0-- said "The 4.0 is a $20k better car, not $50k". Of course now it is +$150-$200k more !!!

Bill

PS...honestly you cant go wrong with any of them; .1RS in orange or Green is just beautiful, 4.0 is the ultimate and I even LOVED the sunroof on my 07 GT3

Great thread. But a lot of discussion at the extremes. Not sure that a $200k 2,000 mile .2 RS would interest me, even if money was not an issue (it is to me at that price point). Also not interested in a 30k mile .2RS that has been thoroughly tracked, etc. What is most interesting to me is the .2 RS w/5-10k miles in the $130-150k range. I love my .2 GT3, but predictably, if I could have gone back and done it again, I would have paid the $135k or so that a certain Rennlister was asking for their .2 RS w/4k ish miles. I should have just bought that. Happy with mine. May not ever upgrade now unless the right thing comes along, but reverse time? I buy that car. Hope that helps someone on fence looking for data points.
