Default 2011 GT3RS Price Advice

Looking at grabbing a GT3RS. Dealer in our region has a great car with 2,XXX miles, CPO, looks promising. It is a 3.8.

They are asking $200K. Seems crazy to me? Other good CPO cars (but with more like 10K of miles) seem to be asking more like $145K.

Happy to pay a bit more than the others are asking, but this seems real high?

TIA

Yes it is high, but when no more 4.0 is available for sale, low mileage 3.8 price will go up. Supply and demand, right?
I personally don't mind that 3.8 price keep going up.

anyone paying big money for a 997 .2RS is an idiot

The 4.0 is another story but good deals can still be had on the 3.8RS

it's a very volatile mkt with 3.8 RS

and there are many types of RS.
if u plan to keep one long term, 200000 isn't bad at all
of u want a driver, I can get u something cheaper.
most RS buyers aren't clear on what they want.
I never shop based on price.
figure out want, get the money ready to wire. see the target that fancies u, fire the wire.

I have seen many good deals lost by my friends bc they hesitated. literally five minute too long....

at 200 a 3.8'is still way cheaper than 4.0

it's not a matter of cost, but more about availability. there are very few sub 1000 mile cars left.

if u want 10,000 mile cars, they are not 200k cars

I always read with interest the various posts regarding "market value" of Porsche's, particularly very limited production ones such as RS variants. Why such interest on my part - because almost never are commentators writing to compare apples to apples, or usually even fruits to fruits. What do I mean by this?

The OP, MDWAC, has asked us what the market is for a 2,000 mile, CPO, 3.8RS. What we don't know about this car is critical:

1. Original MSRP
2. Color
3. Any aftermarket modifications
4. Track time
5. Is it as nice as a brand new car or does it show some wear already

Without these answers, the best that any of us can do is provide a generalization for him. But let's go beyond this for a moment and assume we have all of these answers. The most important next question is simply, how many other 2,000 mile, CPO, 3.8RS cars are on the market today? You don't have to think that hard about the answer - it's zero. Why is it zero? See Mooty's post immediately above - because almost all of these cars have been driven and don't have low mileage on them; the few that do, are likely in collectors' hands (I won't rehash the last of the manuals, Metzer, simpler cars debate here, that is what it is). Further, you had very few of these cars produced to begin with, so the pool to draw from is small.

Mooty is absolutely correct - if you want the best (assuming this car is highly optioned and meets that criteria), are buying from a reputable Porsche dealer and getting a CPO, then $200,000 is market correct. If you're simply looking for a 3.8 RS to drive and don't care about color, mileage, options, then of course there are many more cars to choose from at much lower prices. But you're comparing collector level cars to daily driver level cars, which is very difficult to do.

RichK, I respectfully disagree with you about someone being an idiot for paying big money for a 3.8. Initial supply low, current supply very low, no more of that genre coming. If you know of good deals on 3.8's, you know where to find me and i would love to hear about them.

One of the 3.8 RS the OP mentioned I was actually looking to buy. Here's the key facts:

- 2011 grey on red, Certified
- full clear bra
- Sport chrono w/o PCM
- Front axle lift system
- No PCCB
- Sound package plus
- Dynamic cornering lights
- 9,000 miles
- 1 owner
- I checked all documents: all services and campaigns performed (including 20k service), NO DME events
- Car is reportedly immaculate; all OEM, never tracked as well

The asking was $146k and I offered $138k. They countered with $139k on thursday.

I said I'd think about it; It sold this morning. Did I make a mistake?

My humble opinion only - yes (and only since you asked). $1,000 in the scheme of a car of this nature is immaterial. Sounds like it sold very reasonably at $139,000. I wish you good luck in finding another one for yourself.

:crap:

It haunted me all weekend but I just didn't get the impulse to pull the trigger.

I initially offered $130k and that would have gone without doubt on my end. I just felt I was already being generous with $138k.

I'm curious to see what the second hand market on 991 GT3's will be like and what effect that will have on 3.8RS's.

The 3.8RS will not stand the test of time like the 4.0. For my money...I am a buyer for lower(10k and under) .1RS.

As an owner of both the .1 and .2RS I personally prefer the .1

The orange .1RS will be a good car to own, drive, and possibly appreciate over time. Could be wrong about the .2RS but I don't think so.

In the collecting world (any area), the sayings go:

You never regret what you bought, only what you didn't buy.

And:

You never regret what you sold, only what you didn't sell.

lots of USED 7.2 will surface. like my 30000 mile car wii b on the block.
the really clean ones will b kept and most of those owners will simply add another 991 without selling 997
