Not sure why it took me so long to finally get down to VIR, but it's officially on the yearly rotation after this past weekend. What a track.
Friday was a rain washout, so I got 8 sessions between sat/sun to learn the track. Only timed myself twice on Sunday, but managed a 2:07.7 with a some traffic, on Nitto NT01's.
I'm definitely leaving time on the table through the upper esses, and other spots. Perhaps some self-preservation kicked in on my last event of the year. I think 2:06's are do-able in a .1 on Nittos.
BTW - VIR staff told us they are widening the track in some areas, and also paving the paddock, so no more kitty litter.

I agree 100%, awesome layout, awesome track. The only draw back is the paddock area that is non paved. Renting a garage is a must. Unlike you, I am a two and a half day drive away and I definitely have this track on my yearly rotation. The esses and the roller coster areas is where a great deal of time is gained or lost. I wasn't able to get below 2:10's in my time there.

It was my second visit to VIR this weekend also. Great weekend, I. Drove all sessions, even the rainy ones on Friday (love driving in the rain, great learning to be had). Ran the 996 GT3 there this time instead of the SPB. Managed a 2:03.98 on Sunday morning on 24 heat cycle Hoosiers so was pretty happy with the weekend. Had a great 4 lap tussle with pro driver John Lewis on Sunday morning. He was driving a customers 997 GT3RS and couldn't pull me. It was epic!

Yep, apparently a handful of corners are also be widened as much as 6 feet to promote better/safer racing for next year.
No doubt, his times are crazy fast for street GT3's....or anything for that matter.
I'll be back in March to crack the 6's, which is respectable for a non-stripper 3.6L. I might have a front clubsport cage section by then....this track makes me want one.

I went to VIR this past summer for the first time and it quickly became a must see track every year. I am looking forward to a 2014 trip. It's great that they are paving the main paddock but it sounds like they really hosed the group running there this weekend.

Will post a link when its done. My video software took a crap in post processing so now I gotta rebuild the PC first. Might not be until tomorrow, but I will post a link.
The owner of the car came to see me after to tell me it was a Pro and not him so don't try it again, because he doesn't drive like that. He said the Pro was pissed I was behind him so much so he pointed me by to chase me. When I pointed him back by, it took him the entire length of the back straight to get back around me and I had to lift to let him in the brake zone. My little old 996 GT3 did good this weekend!
