The 2wd variants are so effortlessly hoonable (590 tq thru 285 rear tires). I live in the rain and you can break the rear tires loose on I5 at highway speed when it's damp.

I of course prefer rwd as if it's really nasty out I drive the truck
They went AWD for the same reason BMW will need to go AWD soon. With 550 WHP, hard to use it in a magazine.

I have no idea how a F10 M5 weighs as much as a E63 wagon with AWD, but god help BMW figure out how to get AWD in a M car without ending up with a range rover.

The AMG twin turbo V8's are stupid fast...I am in NY right now and have been driving my dad's CLS63. I am very impressed with the motor and the sounds it makes. I don't like the current BMW cars.

Also, I am very happy with my 2014 GTR black edition as a daily driver.

I hear you ... the older I get the more I like the older cars, and modern cars at some point will only serve as mere transportation. Don't know why, but not surprised.

I think for the money, they are the best! Im on my second in a row and had an RS4 before that. Great navi, good on gas, the best bluetooth and very fast. My last was a 6 speed and I now have a DSG, I actually prefer it.

How about an ISF?

What is the matter with you people.....E90 M3 w/ 6spd manual. 4 doors, a trunk, and one of the finest V8's ever made.

No other car listed in this thread can match the E90 M3 as a whole package...especially if you are looking for a "driver's" daily.

Really enjoying this thread. I am eager to drive the new CLA45 MB which is the AMG awd version. The reviews are really positive (esp. Dan Neil in the WSJ) but it may be too small for your needs. The MB wagon is a beast and a superb daily driver and long distance cruiser. I would take advantage of the severe depreciation curve and pick up a CPO model from 2012 unless you feel the need for AWD. My wife and I really enjoy her Q5 for the fit and interior style, excellent nav, and B&O sound system. Steering is numb but gets decent mileage and is comfortable on trips. I am the original owner of a 6 speed E39540i (European delivery-great experience in 2001) and haven't found any recent BMW worth trading "up" for. The three series does come in a wagon...may be worth a test drive however if this fits your needs.
