^^^ This. WAGON !!!
True that.
^^
Did I hear Wagon ???
For what's worth the new RS6 is probably the one and only Audi I would ever consider owning.

M5 by far. I drove my 2010 for over 4 years (bought it in June of 2009). Great car - even drove it in the winter on the summer tires. Of course a few days when I had to ride with my wife in her Cayenne - but I don't think that you will have that problem where you live.
Good luck

Lots of amg wagon votes. This is what i have been leaning towards, but i need to go drive a new M5. I like the looks of Rs6 but wagon wont be sold in US and in any case, Tina has A4 wagon and i dont want two audi wagons in the fleet.
Ok, here's the next question. AMG wagon, 2012 vs 2014?
I have a lead on new 2012. 2012 in RWD and i can probably get 20k off msrp. It is black and i want white.
2014 at this point are hard to come by, probably have to order and patiently wait, but i am not in a hurry. No deals on msrp. It is AWD and may be more "numb" compared to 2012. And finally - the 2014 styling is vastly improved in my opinion, esp in the front end. See pics. 2012 has traditional front grill vs more aggressive and updated 2014. But is it worth 20k?

If you need (want) the power I'd choose the m5. If a wagon then the amg for sure.
Personally I opted for a 535 as the lease deals are insane and I swap dd every couple years. Fast enough, drives ok, steering is numb, rolls a little too much, but comfortable for dd and good for clients. Also m / amg cars a pre a little showy for me with customers.

Love the need/want distinction! Hard to argue anyone NEEDs the power in a dd. lol. Either sedan or wagon will work. Wagon a bit more convenient for weekend trips with dogs, road bike etc...but either one works

My 2012 with 18k miles was $45k off sticker
Note that the LSD was optional in 2012 and not part of the performance package
I wanted white as well... Never found one for sale
The one I ended up with had the right options so I took silver
(Ceramics, LSD, performance pack, upgrade forged factory wheels)

it all comes down to how much interior space and cargo room you need.
With a truck and RS in the driveway, I would look to something that was small and easy to bomb around town. (truck carries the big stuff and the RS fills the sport void.)
A big flashy sedan is always fun for a daily, especially a sporty sedan like the M5. But if only for quick commutes, id get something small.
A little Macan would make a nice little beater.

I've got a 2012 E63 wagon - the 2WD car - and it is the best daily driver I have ever had. I have previously had M5's (E39 and E60) and had ditched the E60 for a 535xi wagon that was almost as fast and much less irritating to drive every day. I thought long and hard about the F10 M5 and ended up canceling my order after I came to the conclusion that the E63 is now the better enthusiast car. I think Merc have corrected what used to be poorer steering and the E63 is rawer and more muscular than the newest M5, which increasingly panders to luxury buyers rather than enthusiasts. The E63 sounds fantastic, has a great daily driving gearbox, has a superb steering rack and comes in a wagon - the most practical car of all. Between the E39 and E60 I had a prior generation MB E55 and that car was terrible - I have good context on how far they have come. I did 4,000 mile roadtrip through the rockies this summer with my kids and the Merc was unbeatably comfortable, fast, reliable and even not bad on gas. The new 4WD car is undoubtedly faster but I personally prefer the look of the 2012 model - in addition to changing the nose, they have taken the hips off the old car - which I think is one of the design's best features. I'd say of you can find one off lease you'd be very happy - but there are very few around.
