My Singer 911 2014 Restoration

There is already so much flavor in this thread brewing.
Day 1: I am already getting anxious. Spent a good bit more time than necessary trolling SVD reviews and videos. I did not realize how much of a press-coverage and exposure explosion the firm has had this year. There is a lot of material out there, all incredibly consistently positive. It will be hard to settle into a slow burn cadence on this project.

I suspect you found my recent film and old story:

Looks like undercoat to me. Maybe the client was on a budget and didn't want to pay for tint in the paint.
Kidding!
But I will say that exposed oil tank filler cap is mistake.
Did any 911 ever have an exposed filler like that? Is it just a peculiar nod to the '72 or is there some legit historical reference? I'm guessing they just got carried away with the central fuel filler exposed cap and decided it somehow tie in the aesthetics of their design.
Presumably it's possible to actually lock this car and leave it unattended in a public parking space.
Kidding!

I just don't like the blemish on the hips of the 911. I wonder if it was in part a design decision or cost measure that took it away after the '72. Anyone who has put oil in a 993 turbo has envied the easy access of that external filler flap on the '72 and I'd still choose a '72 over a '73 even though it's now a cliche, but when Bruce Anderson first mentioned it in Excellence, I felt like he had given up a "secret" ... little did I know that I should have just gone and bought every damn, unloved and unremarkable '72 or '73 junker in a 1000 mile radius and barned the lot of 'em knowing others would pay six figures some time down the road. Then again, I really don't have a very high opinion of the hoarders who've done that with the early cars. I guess I started resenting the flippers and the broker dealers when I saw them trying to corner the 993 turbo S market. Now they've got their parasitic suckers on the whole 993 market. Such is life. How I got from a '72 oil filler to 993 prices, I dunno. : )
