Default Numeric Short Shifter / Cables

I'm looking at replacing my current short shift kit (plastic OEM) with the Numeric kit. All seem to be happy with the conversion. Two questions:

1) Apart from design superiority, how does the product performance differ from the OEM?
2) What is the benefit of installing Cup Cables?

Thanks in advance...Mike.

I really like the shifter unit and pretty much every car comes in here and leaves with one after feeling it in mine. Just that bit more precise (like a rifle bolt action). Most folks set it on the loose setting in 3s. Some that like it shorter in the middle one. The only slight drawback for some people is that it requires a bit more effort to put in reverse. Getting rid of of the plastic takes away the indirectness or spongy feel as well.

The cables are less than the cup ones and easier to install. They don't make the same racket/noise as the cup ones. I don't use them in mine but a lot of track folks swear by them. You're less likely to have failures at the track which can and have happened.

^^^^^ precise, feels sturdier and shifts are very crisp. But you have to like that sort of shifting. On the track, I shift fast and hard so numeric is great!

personally i feel if you do shifter, do the cable. the cable has more influence than shifter.

I did the shifter and cable upgrade...couldn't be any happier. The shifting is so crisp and precise, bolt action rifle shifting at its best.

Do the package- shifter and cables while you are in their then add semi solid engine and gearbox mounts for the perfect gear change (next to PDK )

Thanks all...anxious to experience this. Crisp, bolt-action, quick and precise are not adjectives that currently come to mind during my shifting experience with this car. Numeric shifter and cables it is.

Two different links for you.

It is not that bad of a job but time consuming. The interior bits take patience. I did the cup cable but not the shifter. I was shocked to see all the plastic on the OEM shifter. I will run it until it breaks and then upgrade. Cup cables are a significant upgrade and not that noisy with the console in place.

Can anyone comment on direct experience between the Numeric shifter and the CAE shifter?
Thanks

Juan, PM P.J. He's had a CMS shifter and now the CAE, from my understanding the Numeric and CMS are pretty similar in feel.

PJ can comment more, but I have sat in PJ's car with the CAE shifter. It is very similar in feel to the Numeric gate to gate BUT there is a huge difference in the strength of the centering spring (since CAE has their own), which makes the shifting feel more like a sequential AND the shifter is raised and much closer to hands on the wheel. So yeah, completely different!

Oh, and I agree with Mooty, the biggest bang for the buck are the cables. The rest is just tweaking. Also, for 90% of us, you don't need to shift faster, so a short shifter is shortening the life of your transmission. The good news is the Numeric has the long throw setting which matches the standard shifter in the GT3, which is where mine is set.
