This just shows how far off base a forum thread can get, even the distinguished RL. Magnus' car was not sold to some "tool" as an earlier poster suggested. It was purchased by the Ingram collection, one of the more important Porsche collections around. I saw the car and it will enhance the collection as well as Magnus' reputation.

-Badass looking hotrod 911
-Rather build it myself because for me, MW doesn't have any greater skills than I do
-Some people can't do these things so they get out their check book
-MW should get all the money he can for the car which is great. Capitalism at it's best
-Same goes for Singer although IMO, there isn't a 911 out there that I'd pay $400k for but then again, I don't have that kind of money.

Sorry - I want to make this clear - that I have no intent to offend Magnus at all. He is doing what alot of would want to do. I am starting, but do not have that kind of funds.

Having said that - there is a contingent out there that thinks if a car is owned by someone in the news or media that it is worth more. I am one that doesn't think that way - so what - who cares who the previous owner was (unless it was Dr. Porsche of course). I have looked at certain cars and the seller says "this was owned by ......." So what - I do not care about these "celebrities" - actually my meaning of a celebrity is some one who makes waaaaay to much cash for doing very little and that same person thinks that they are better than everyone else. Wow - I just described most of LA - lol

Congrats to Magnus for getting that kind of money - but I don't see it. Gives me encouragement to do my lower cost version of a Singer and get around $200K for it. Worth a shot.

personally i wont pay 200 for mw's car. that doesn't mean it's not worth the $, it's just i dont have that much money.

some said they rather build their own. well, try it. i have build three race cars with professional help. it was not easy. the wait, the cussing, the sweat (and i didn't life a finger).... all that is worth money. what takes mw 1 year to build will take most of us DIY guys 5 years. oh i am not exaggerating.

things should fit, will NOT fit.
things that should work will NOT work.

for those who can afford it, paying mw 250k is way cheaper than ending up in divorce court b/c SO is pissed at you in the garage all day long.

If it was easy, anyone could do it. Anyone that has done this type of work in the past knows all of this. There is a certain amount of pride and joy creating something from your own concept.

it's rewarding, but you must know that you are jumping into the deep end of the pool!

agreed!
murphy's law at it's finest.
things always go wrong, parts ordered are wrong, parts end up in other countries, parts don't fit, order new part when currency slumps, wait another 3 months, engine out in corner gather dust and vermin, part arrives 5mm too big, cut and weld part to fit.....and people don't always see eye-to-eye.
it certainly is a marathon event.
