Why the surprise about the power gain (or the inadequacy thereof) over a C2S? Historically the GT3 has never been a numerical superstar... in fact it's often had numbers within 10-15% of the prevailing C2S, as in the case of the four most recent generations...

Slap some headers on a C2S with a Aerokit and you've got yourself the 991 GT3. Time to find CPO .2 RS.

Couldnt agree more Crex..although I will not buy the (first) 991 GT3s..I dont understand the "disappointement".

The car is only the basis of other things to come..what do you expect with 450-470HP..that it will trash a Mclaren with 620HP?

Andreas Preuninger said himself that the new GT3 will be on 997.2GT3RS level..so it seems to be correct.

PS: in the 997 series the GT3 was about 10 seconds faster then the best equipped 997.2S..keeping in mind that the 997.2S didnt have the race tires. So if the 991 GT3 will be roughly 10 seconds faster then the best 991S..that is HUGE!!

You really think that every year cars will become 10 seconds faster on the ring..come one..be realtistic. The major gains have been from the late 90s to middle of 2000..since then we are gaining very little..besides what is already "very fast"..cant be become "a lot faster"..

I wonder if Porsche knows that a dealership's "sales guys" are leaking inside information to customers a month in advance of the car's debut? And of course, "sales guys" always know and give the straight scoop, right?

Don't get me wrong, I don't doubt CRex's info, just that the salesman's actions sound a little fishy. I'll wait until I see the car.....

Also, a.928, you make good points.

Well minus the redline and badge.

I am not surprised by only 450hp. I thought since the 991S X51 package came out that maybe we would see 455-460.

Salespeople have to prioritize their time on the early adopters who will buy the limited number of cars initially available. The last thing I'd want to do as a salesperson is take (and return) a lot of deposits for pre-orders on a car that some buyers will not want - they get bashed pretty heavily for misrepresenting things as it is.

My dealer had fairly accurate data on the 997.2RS and the Cayman R 3-4 months before Porsche released everything.

I'm afraid I got the verbatim pitch from my sales guy last week. That ain't a coincidence, they're targeting certain clients to get a healthy number of deposits. The info probably is accurate.

Rear steer is the first thing we take out of the Nissan Skyline GT-R.

Good points, although in my experience the reliability of information is hugely variable from dealer to dealer and salesperson to salesperson, so a healthy skepticism is not unwarranted. There are also plenty of details that are, as yet, unknown about the car. I want more information.

Also, maybe someone can explain the disappointment over the HP figure, assuming it's accurate. It's 15HP more than the 3.8L GT3 and identical to the 3.8L RS, in a chassis that's reportedly lighter than either. Are GT3/RS owners disappointed with their engine's output?
