I'll have to think about it, and have more immediate fish to fry just now, but...I can think of one friend very well placed to have a real sense of what's going on and who to work with if something needs to be/can be done. About time he and I had lunch anyway...

If I think there's a connection in the offing, I will be sure to reach out. That said, I can't commit to "the cause" just yet. I see smoke, but not fire. Of course, I'm not sure I see so good. Especially anytime Mooty is commenting.

Now, if I could just figure out a way to get up to Reno-Fernley...sounds like my kinda joint.

P.S. I think 92 db is too low primarily 'cuz I got busted in the 997-2 GT3 RS press car at LS. That said, I think street cars are getting too loud. I prefer noise that I enjoy over noise I subject others to, and that draws attention to me. If I could have a sound like the 997 GT3s at 996 GT3 levels, that would be ideal. For me. I wish more carmakers would target mechanical and intake noise inside the car, for the driver to enjoy, instead of exploiting loopholes in EU driveby standards aimed at silencing crap cans on their way to the market. Again, just me. Not sayin' I think the whiners by the tracks who moved there are right...but there is no question that the cars we love have gotten effectively louder of late.

As is often the case, the truth and best path is probably somewhere in between...but I sure hope the ninnies don't win this one.

You make a very good and interesting point about this whole "noise" thing. Nobody likes noise, period. Especially the one created by "your neighbor"...
Like I mentioned in an earlier post, aviation, which I'm involved in, is suffering from airports being closed due to noise problems, some created by "whinies" who moved "after" the airport was built and some by aviation users themselves (prop noise, flying low etc.)
Same with our cars. I like when the RPM's go up and the noise goes with it but you're right, why not enjoy that INSIDE the cockpit rather than bothering others? Maybe I just have to buy a Ford Focus ST which I heard has a full "symphony" of noise being piped in the cockpit. And I think the new 991 has something similar albeit at a much steeper price...
Well, I guess, this doesn't bode very well for our "dinosaur GT3's" in this noiseless new world...
We'll just have to move to Savy's hideout in the Nevada desert to go full out in our "outdated" cars...

If you really want to make a change, figure out who's responsible for making decisions, take him for a night out on the town, get him liquored up, and buy him a high class hooker. It'll go much further than any letter.

you would think with all the money that races there, someone would come up with a better answer.. if it's 7 people.. thats easy to suffice.. shouldn't be that hard of a battle. probably 15% of racers are lawyers and the rest clearly make a couple hundred k a year.. sounds like the battle of 1000 rich racers against 7 ********... $ always prevails.

Oh, don't get me wrong. I love (!) noisy cars. Ruf CTR, RS 4.0, and any early 911 or 914-6 —*or 906 for that matter —*with minimal exhaust makes me smile like a school kid. There are even ways to drive pretty loud cars around town without angering the general populous. Just ask Alex.

But any hope of speed on the DL disappears as soon as the hammer goes down hard. The RS 4.0 was so loud on backroads that I knew better than to back track on a good section, figuring it was only a matter of time before "neighbors" several miles from my 20 called me in. Well, I knew better, anyway...

FWIW Laguna raised their rates $5k per day for 2013. They gave away POC's annual August weekend, yea the same weekend we've had for the past 12 years, to the BMW Club. BMW apparently rented it for the enitre week Monday-Sunday....

The poc calendar still has the aug Laguna dates listed. Bummer as I wanted to try and attend this event in 2013.

I'll still attend 92+ db days for now, but I won't support the 90 db days.

For those who can't grasp the message of the ever decreasing sound limits, they (the park service and local residents) are adding to their methods of getting their point across.

They don't want you (us).

Well, on track at speed, all week, every week. They are perfectly fine as a museum with occasional events. Monterey and it's surrounding tony enclaves could give a crap about any economic impact of a bunch of recreational trackers.

My support lies with the passionate entrepreneurs like those who have brought us new tracks and motorsport clubs and ranches all over the US over the past few years. It is a travesty that California has nothing new/updated for 30 years. Pathetic. No-brainer: http://circuitoftheamericas.com/economic-impact. The threads on here about COTA track days are indisputable proof of the ravenous desire for new, modern, challenging, safe facilities.

Please keep replies non-personal, I'm not your enemy, the park service and the locals are.

I made the escape from the Socialist Republic of Kalifornia in 2009 after living in the bay area for 10 years. Best move I ever made. Come on over, Nevada welcomes you, your business, your wallet and your desire for freedom.
