The risk for any DE organization to run at COTA is the upfront rental fee of over $100K for a 3 days event. If weather take a crap or not enough people sign up then you are screwed. Unless the event is host by ALMS or F1, I doubt any "ordinary" DE group is able to absorb that kind of loss.
Private track day is a different story. Get ready to pay $2500 each but you get to run the track all day. I still prefer run groups and 30 cars on the track at the same time. It's more fun then driving alone

I'm one of them! Left Singapore this morning, Korea now, San Francisco in the morning where I'll rest a day, then Austin Thursday night.
Tickets have finally been sorted and probably just going to book a helicopter flight to the track on Sunday to avoid the traffic snarl.
Can't wait!

Well NARRA has released a partial schedule that has 2 dates to be added. COTA is not on it yet. Schedule will be finalized by PRI in 2 weeks. Based on the locations of their events and the dates of the missing events, I'm betting their March date will be COTA, Barber or Sebring since the first event is in Texas.
Could feasibly be a Oct/Nov date at COTA as well, will know soon.

F1 Friday morning practice results: so if Vettel can crank out a 1:38 us mortal should be able to do 2:10 ....
Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel stamped his mark on proceedings as the first free practice session at the Circuit of The Americas drew to a close in the crisp morning air of Texas on Friday.
Lewis Hamilton had set the pace throughout for McLaren, finding grip on a surface that was still very green, and seemed to have set the benchmark with a lap of 1m 39.543, but then Vettel banged in a 1m 38.692s and followed that up immediately as the chequered flag fell with 1m 38.125s.
It was a great start for the German, and for the new home of the US Grand Prix, which has drawn a sizable crowd for a Friday.
Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso chased Hamilton enthusiastically all morning, taking third place with 1m 40.337s from Jenson Button on 1m 40.528s in the other McLaren, Red Bull’s Mark Webber on 1m 40.650s and Ferrari’s Felipe Massa on 1m 40.966s.
some great photos with the new F1 track

After having seen the track in person it may or may not be fun to drive but it dwarfs any track ive seen. I must drive this track next year. Looks like major fun (even if hard on brakes). One way or the other i will try and get down here in 2013. Definitely nothing like it in the states.

just watched the F1 practice. What an amazing track! It is huge with tons of undulations. Track surface was super slippery in the morning and Hulkenberg said over the radio ".... super slippery! it is worst than rain!" lol
This is how Fernando Alonso learn the track ... with his bike
