In a 3 mile track my Z06 and Cup car are about 6-8 seconds slower than a Daytona Prototype so I am not worry about COTA. If Alex Gurney does 2:18 there then I should be able to run 2:30 ish and down to mid 2:20's with practice. I will not attend any track event at COTA where they modify or shorten the track for any reason.

He did 2:15's on a green track, so in qualy trim on race weekend, you can probably expect 2:11-2:12 or so.

I'm not concerned either, however it's not me or you that's and issue. It's not even DE Cup which is likely to be another 10-12 seconds behind you. They are going to be faster than 90% of the rest of the field anyways.

It's the novice drivers who may not get enough track time to learn the track sufficiently. The long straights may scare some organizers as well.

On the contrary though, Road America isn't much shorter of a lap (probably 10 seconds) so if it can be done there, it can be done at COTA, however COTA is a much more complicated track. Just saying, could be possible, and probably will for some organizations. I would bet PCA type events run shorter course.

Let's see 85 RL drivers at $1k, run 2 groups slow and fast. Should get 3.5 hr track time a day per group, I'm in.

So far COTA are quoting $50K for private track day and no more than 20 cars ...

yup ... private event at COTA is way too expensive now. imho private event is just boring. I much rather attend larger DE event and mix it up with all sorts of cars

Assume private day would be open track so unlimited run time. Typical PCA DE run time is max 5x20min or 4x30min, or about 100-120mins if nothing goes wrong and they stay on schedule.

You need to think of it in $/hr of runtime, quantity and quality of others on track, and quality of facility. Just my .02.

I like that idea. With someone like Savyboy who can be used as an organizer it may not have to be coined a private event.

Though i doubt we could get 85 people to pay 1k, I would do it.

That is the crux of it. We love running with David Murray at $700 for 2 days so $1K for 3 days is right in line, hell $1K for 2 days of David Murray would work for me. If somebody would contact David maybe he could put out feelers and see if he could get enough interest ie Pre Paid entries to put it on.

I don't care if Savyboy made money as I sure as heck wouldn't put it on for free. Just want to run the full course with lots of track time.

As an aside COTA must have talked to the France family about costs as those are Daytona type numbers.

Ultimately, I would like a 3-day David Murry DE - pretty much no-rules. Wonder if DM would/could make this happen?
Exactly. Run groups is a waste of time. Just make it an 8 hr open session. I'm drooling over this but the transportation cost will kill my 2013 budget.

Someone contact D.Murry......

Just as an aside, Spring Mountain Motorsports looks to have nice amenities and its $6500/day. 3.4 mile course..... It's no F1 track though : (
