Have a white one with the all the same issues listed...hope all issues are flushed from the system and it will be bulletproof like all the other Porsches I have owned.

Fingers crossed.

3.8RS PP and Clutch let go after 14K miles, replaced with 4.0 parts.
All RS, including 4.0 had thermostat or trans cooler valve or both replaced.

No other problems, except some cracking exhausts.

Treat your car right, drive it properly and you will be rewarded. Of course some of them had a lot of problems, not saying that mine won't have, but of course, how you shift, drive, will help to keep the car in one and only piece.
Previous car GT2, after 24K miles, and most at the track was in one piece, and still in one piece with new owner. Only had a check valve (plastic on the intake) in all the time that I had the car.
My RS, only for nose lift, oh, and the car is GREY

agreed. makes a big difference to be able to drive fast without abusing the drivetrain. smooth is where it's at.

Drivetrain wear is subjective on driver, climate and hours.....the gear boxes in these cars get hot after 30 minutes or so and bind up. Some of the clutches that blow are from bad shifting / mis shifts.....maybe its a good the clutch lets go. A car ran at Sebring in the summer will have very different wear than a transmission ran in a cooler climate

A motor free of overrevs should be fine......there have been a lot of 3.8RS motors that have went boom. It happens at the beginning of its track life

I wish Giesha would have a warranty engine boom.....she is well north of 100 documented hours at DE's on the engine. Current clutch and transmission (changed under warranty for 1st gear pop out) have 55-60 hours. Trans oil is changed every 4 events with barley any residue on the magnetic plug

I still stand my gound street miles on these engines is nothing. race ("DE") hours are all that matters.....that means the hours the car sees over 6-8k rpm. Anything below that doesnt count toward major wear

Making a statement that person "x" has "y" miles and no problems is not good data for comparison if track time is not documented.

track wear is so accelearated compared to street. gearbox suffers the most i think.
then again, i feel sorry for garage queens.

Engine suffers too.....bearing wear. But engines dont require rebuilds as often as gear boxes

I think a 996 cup gear box is due for a rebuild around 60ish hours

My coach this weekend spent some time in my car, I asked him how the gearbox felt for 60ish hours.....he said they all feel this tired around then but it shifted fine

Once in a while it clicks on a 3-4 shift

the only exception is that there is a huge amount of wear if a car is driven on the street fairly aggressively when cold. In fact, the vast majoriity of street-use engine wear comes on start up and drive off whhen stone cold, unless properly warmed.
