Default Michelin Pilot Super Sport Tires

Anyone try these in place of MPSC's? How are they on track? The cups on my car have way too many HC's on them.

Pretty much as good in the dry, MUCH better in cold, and much MUCH better in wet.

Done two dry days on track with them and quite happy with their performance for a street tyre. More screach than the cups and definitely get more TC activation under hard acceleration but times similar to MPSC in my case. Wear on outer shoulder was pretty good also, heaps better than the PS2s...

Only problem I've found is heaps of rubber pickup off the track as I was sharing with cup cars and being newish, it was clagging up the grooves in the tyres... Not the tyres' fault though...

Very good cold/ wet tire- did a TTOD at an autocross in the wet with them (not in a GT3) running against hoosier wets, etc. Not quite as sticky as Hankook RS-3s when they get hot, certainly slower than R compounds, but the best all around street tire out at the moment. On my second set.

They are a couple of seconds off the pace but very drivable, nice progressive slides and more importantly they last very, very good! Off course the prefect tire to drive to and from the track even in
hard rain.

I took the run flats of my wife's BMW and put MPSS on. I did only a few laps on the track and was impressed. the car has 9000 miles now and they seem perfect in the Florida monsoons still.

Stephen the buyer of my car just did 5 days on them and I can't believe how good they still are on the RS.

I'd say when we run out of RA1's it could be the new sanctioned GT3 DE CUP tire..
It will be my next street tire on RS for sure, so I have the option to take it on track without switching tires if I want.

Nice tire, very long lasting, good in the wet/cold. But certainly slower than MPSC, no question.

I have them on my car as street tires. I've also done 1 day @ Nola on them, and at least 2 days @ Sebring on them. I agree with Peter's sentiments for the most part, although I'd guess they are more like 3-4 seconds off the pace on a big track, at least with my driving style and overly aggressive hoosier alignment. Even so, for the money, they are a great value and are very good street tires as well as being a very competent track tire at the same time. Best of both worlds if you will... I would love it if DE Cup switched to this tire. Plenty of inventory, easy to get, relatively inexpensive, long tire wear.

Actually, not by much at all, at least when testing the MPSS for Michelin in late 2010...

I have them in my daily driver, and they stick too much in the rain. Dry grip is very good. They are fast in dry conditions.

If you want them faster, get them shaved at 6/32", they will lose rain grip and gain dry grip, they come at 10/32" thread depth. The version used in the 599 GTO comes at 7/32".

I like this tire as a spec DE Cup tire if everybody else switches. In the meantime, if they run RA1, I will run slicks.

Shave them and you'll be surprised. MPSC come at 5.5/32" thread depth while MPSS come at 10/32", apples to apples means equal thread depth.

I've tracked both. I haven't shaved the MPSS. I found them to be a nice tire, but slower than my MPSC. Less lat G, long G, slower laptime. Not on the same day, but did 3 track days on the MPSS and now about 18 on the MPSC. Maybe if you shave them its a bit different, maybe its mechanical grip vs. chemical grip. I'm just citing my personal experience. I would say the laptime difference is 1 - 1.5 second / min.

What 2010 test are you referring to?

2 seconds compared to RA1 and MPSC. Not Hoosiers they are faster still. So yes, 4 seconds slower then Hoosiers for sure.

I have enough inventory on RA1's to last me for a few years but after that I will have to go see how much money I want to spend on tires VS how fast I want to go to see what the next DE tire will be for me.

Car and Driver did a tire test in the latest August edition between 10 performance tires and the MPSS won.

Still a slower tire though.

Thinking about putting these on my 997.1 RS as well. I have them on my GTI and so far they have been great tires. What size would you guys recommend? 235/305 or 245/305?
