The tyre wear is completely different on the R888 and, and this is the most important factor, in 19" they cost about the same as a set of Michelin Pilot Cups here, so price is not really a deciding factor.

$2100 MPSC $1300 R888 usd in 19" here....but I'm running 18" R888 now for less.
MPSC chunks up and R888 rubber seems to roll off the tire.

Checked w/ Bob Woodman tires. Here's what they say:

"Typically you should see 10-12 useful heat cycles (max performance) out of a set."

So that seems to coincide pretty well with what I'm seeing. Like I mentioned, at 15 cycles, tires are pretty much gone. A few of those cycles were 'easy' cycles because learning a new track. So, I'll be looking for some new 18 wheels. Love the Trofeo R but too expensive for me (means about $1,200 - $1,400 / lapping day w/ tires and entry fees).

Wondering:

Would tyre warmers help? Just put them on after each run so the tyre does not cool down as much?

Not sure what you want to spend on wheels...but I've looked at a lot of them. On the lower price you have the new OZ Challenge wheel through Tire Rack. Damon at Tire Rack posts on this forum and is a great to deal with. Pro race wheel at a awesome price you have Forgeline and Jeff at Pacific Western Performance has great prices and is also a stand up guy and great to deal with. He also sells Fiske and HRE too. On the high price side you have BBS.

If price were no object, I'd definitely go BBS!! W/o a doubt, my favorite wheel -- bar none. Too rich for my blood though.

OZ challenge wheel looks nice and price is right. No concerns w/ this being a cast vs forged wheel? Anybody know how weight compares to factory OE wheels? Thanks for the recommendation -- could be a contender.

Any thoughts on the Formula 43s? I like the RAD 14 design, and comments I've heard / read thus far have been positive.

I doubt they will be heavier. OEM wheels are not really lightweight

OZ 18" Challenge wheels in RS fitment are 24 & 27lbs for front and rear. If BBS are too expensive....they are for me too....look at Forgeline. If cars in Grand Am are not running BBS they run Forgeline. They are a high quality wheel every bit as good as BBS.

I suppose I should not hijack Savy's thread...

Did a 3 day weekend at Thunderhill (Willows, CA). First day was on Trofeos (not the R, however). My lap timer wasn't in the car, but I found my times via a "creative" manner and recorded a best of 2:02. Didn't run on Saturday due to a mechanical. Ran Sunday on the new OZ wheels shod with new Hoosier R6s. With a passenger in the car I ran a best of 2:01. It was substantially hotter on Sunday than it was on Friday.
