Sorry for another thread hijack here, but I suppose anyone interested in these tires will be looking here. I have a brand new set, never mounted, of Trofeo R's that I will be selling. No need for them as I'm looking to sell my car.

245/35/19 fronts, 325/30/19 rears.

I'll post a proper f/s thread later but wanted to throw this out there beforehand. Not looking to make any money, just recoup my exact costs. PM if interested. Thanks.

Did a 3 day weekend at Thunderhill (Willows, CA). First day was on Trofeos (not the R, however). My lap timer wasn't in the car, but I found my times via a "creative" manner and recorded a best of 2:02. Didn't run on Saturday due to a mechanical. Ran Sunday on the new OZ wheels shod with new Hoosier R6s. With a passenger in the car I ran a best of 2:01. It was substantially hotter on Sunday than it was on Friday.
So what would you say- about 2 seconds a lap quicker under similar conditions for the Hoosiers vs. Trofeo R's? (accounting for weight and temperature variance)

I can tell you that the original Trofeos are 2 - 3 secs a lap quicker then the R888s in the same size. On average, this past weekend I was 2.1-2.3 secs slower on my R888s over my last outing with the Trofeos and back when I ran the car on Trofeos, it was my VERY first outing in this car. This past weekend on the R888s, it was my 3rd event in this car. Soo, that spread may even be larger with more time behind the wheel of my current ride.

As far as feel, the Trofeo is worlds better then the R888 and on par with the MPSC. I think with 2 identical cars set up the same, the Trofeo is pretty damn close to the R6. The A6 would still have it but neither will last as long as the Trofeo, especially the newer R version.

I'm looking for direct comparison with R6. I think the Trofeo's degrade in performance more so than R6 in high temp conditions. I will agree that they are close to R6 in performance when track temps are less than 85 degrees. Above that I would say the R6 degrades less in performance than the Trofeo's, based on my performance relative to those running R6's.

In my experience I'm able to lap well with others on R6's in the morning, but by afternoon with temps up, I am unable to keep in touch with the same cars.

Just looking for more evidence of my theory....

Are you fanatical about adjusting hot tire pressure and bleeding when you go over 30 psi Andre? R6 seem to work from 31 psi to 38 psi. I guarantee you Trofeos at 34+ psi are melting away and giving up grip.

To me the "old" Trofeo is stickier and maybe faster than the "Trofeo R". ~2-3 secs difference between R6-Trofeo on a 2:00 track.

Fanatical doesn't begin to describe it. When it was 103 my pressures were 28 all around.

Default Mounting Pressure for Trofeo Rs

Guys,

I was wondering what pressure it took to mount your Trofeo Rs and what wheels they are mounted on.

It took almost 145 psi psi to get the beads to seat on my OEM CL wheels.- crazy. Only one place in my area has that kind of pressure with a special double containment vessel in case of catastrophic failure. I had to drive the wheels and tires up there to get them mounted..... gettin real $$$

Hmmmmm

Josh my answer is....9x18 and 12x18 OZ Challenge wheels from Damon at Tire Rack and a set of Toyo R888. Much less money in the long run.

19" Champion RS98. Took over 100 PSI and letting them sit in the sun for about 30 minutes to soften the rubber.

Since this topic is called "Trofeo R report" I will give you my report after a couple of trackdays with these tyres. I already commented on the performance but I ll just show you the tyre wear this time:

Front left and right

Rear left and right

Rear has more wear than front
Outside more wear than inside, both in the front and in the back

Some approximate numbers as to how much thread remains. This is not easy to measure as sometimes the material on the side of the thread is not the same height left/right, and some thread lines are really thin but anyway:

Numbers are ordered outside - inside and are in mm.

Rear left: 3 - 1.5
Rear right: 3 - 1.5

Front left: 4.5 - 2.7
Front right: 4 - 2

Considering the fact that the tyres come with approx 4.5mm thread depth when new we can see that the fronts nearly haven't got any wear on the inside. Tyres have been used on 2 tracks of the "bigger" kind (mostly 3-4-5'th gear driving, not your local club-racing tracks with lots of 2nd gear corners).

Camber: -3 in the front, -2.5 in the rear

If we compare this to a Michelin Pilot Cup+ N1 that was used a month before

This is the tyre on the rear, right hand side.

Inside completely gone, outer half of the tyre as good as new. I just wasted half a tyre there Tyre had about the same usage/tracks as the Trofeo R.

So.... with identical settings the Cup and the Trofeo have a completely different wear pattern. Cup had too much camber and I would think the Trofeo R can handle even more camber.

Hope this info is helpful for you guys.
