If they have a brain in their heads they will offer an adjustable Gurney flap (TechArt) like on Bob MG's spectacular project car.

i wonder if there was anything behind the talk that Porsche increased chassis and engine compartment sizes to fit 600+ hp V8 into there to even up with Shelby and Audi?

^wishful thinking.

If that happened, it would eat into their 918 sales

Yeah, I highly doubt they'll drop a V8 into a 991. :\

It should be movable.

In the 991 (first Carrera to achieve real downforce btw) the rear wing's deployment angle depends on the extra equipment and speed. For example in the cars with a sliding roof, it extends to two different positions depending on whether the sliding roof is open or closed.

Besides, when the whole car if filled with electric motors, how can they leave the lightweight tail without one..

Rad, you are spot on... Those rear rotors look almost the same size as the fronts and the hat centres seem to be shaped differently... 380 all round?....

That rear decklid looks as a final product. It is actually a spoiler + a wing, very likely to produce more downforce than the 3.8 GT3.

The 991 body is ligther, the engine is also lighter, and the new manual tranny is lighter than the bulky 997 GT3 transmission. No idea what kind of power this 9A1 engine is going to generate, but the dyno numbers on the few 9A1 out there are uninspiring, 385Hp 9A1 engines putting 335 whp, while the 380hp 996 GT3 engine puts down 366whp.

I think Porsche is going to gain more from lower weight, PDK tranny, and higher downforce than from the engine itself with this new car. I wonder what MSRP is going to be, I bet $125k and up, due to the higher development costs they need to get back, something different to the GT3 from 1999-2011 where development costs were lower.

Enjoy the Gremlins of this Guinea Pig, a car with small development can have it all, this is what is keeping me away from the MP4-12C in the meantime, lots of unknown, and no people racing them in street trim.
Given that Porsche is using variants of the 9A1 in the Boxster, Cayman, 911, Turbo and now the GT3, it seems as if they’d be able to lower their R&D cost per model, at least as far as engine development is concerned. As much as I love the Mezger, I believe this new motor will ultimately be developed to a higher level, given its modern attributes and the fact that Porsche will be able to focus a bigger % of its R&D resources on it than they could ever have justified doing for the Mezger. They will learn every subtle performance nuance this engine and it will get better and better with every new iteration.

I really like the lines of the new car. The wing, not so much. Those huge diameter wheels with no sidewalls look like wagon wheels. Maybe it’s an acquired taste.

But...what about a Flat 8 version of the 9A1

Funny, the rear view shot looks like there is a sump guard or "cover" (camo ??) on the underside of the engine...oh, the suspense

I'm feeling relieved this car doesn't look a shred better then my .2 GT3. Yes, it's going to be faster. What is does look [way] better than is a plain ole 991!!!

991 has to be higher on the totem pole in terms of importance. We are talking about the flagship of the brand. The racing program is centered around the 911 and it must win to stay relevant, and flat 6's aren't going to get it done vs V8's with big torque.

Instadates the 997 IMHO. Sleeker, wider, faster, lighter, newer, cooler - long live the king!

I bet you that's the final version of the wing. Seen it as the aerokit cup option on their build site. Only gonna get better which is great for all of those with money to burn. I'm thinking $150k optioned up.

I think it will be the aero offered on the GT3. Reason being, they are testing it at the ring. I would think the new GT3 is close to its final form and therefore it is being tested with the aero that will carry over to the production version.
