Ditch the full interior or put it all back in. IMO no headliner with the rest of the interior is ghetto.

If he has a rollbar, then it will have to be removed before putting in the headliner.

I'm inclined to ditch the interior altogether.

Were they able to remove and replace the headliner without removing the back half cage? I have the Tequipment half cage and would like to get the sunroof removal done also. I'd like to remove the headliner myself before I drop of the car at the shop but I'd hate to have to remove the roll bar in order to do this. Thanks...

I have the 997 Club Sport Roll Bar, it was removed, as was most of the interior, and both front and rear windows.

I based the weight savings off a thread that Gomez did, and he weight all the parts that came out and replaced it with a CF insert were the roof was. Perhaps the 996 guys numbers were off, who knows my project is done, and I am happy to have a lighter weight, non sunroof GT3.
Well, I just did the sunroof delete mod on my car and the weight saving after all was said and done is right at 26lbs, give or take a few ounces. I weighed all the pieces that came out and that's what I came up with. The part numbers are the same on the 996 and 997 cars as everything is superceded to a 997 part number now. In regards to the weight of the sunroof part of the roof (metal only) as referenced above, it feels very heavy indeed but it actually weighs right at 10 lbs when on the scales. It's very easy to inflate the weight savings (wishful thinking I guess) but the reality is this mod using the factory 17lb solid skin will net a savings of 26lbs. I'm still glad I did it as the weight is coming off the top of the car, you get more headroom inside, and the car looks much cleaner on the outside. Great mod....

Congrats on the completion. Thanks for the clarification on the weight savings. I should see if the shop that did the work still has the sunroof insert.

Was at shop and they were doing this to a turbo and used the RSR (I think?) carbon fiber/kevlar skin. Stupid light and not that expensive PMNA part all considered. Will need to be with installed with roll bar. Anyone else use this vs. the steel skin?

I looked at adding a CF roof, the weight savings wasn't that much. Factory RS Savin was very light

Thanks for the details in this thread... 7 years later, and the thread helped me complete the sunroof delete on my 997.

A few people have asked me about the sunroof delete, so I am sure a bump of this old thread wouldnt hurt

pics of my car after the sunroof delete and fresh paint...
