Thanks for the writeup, but is that correct? Reason I ask is a 996TT owner weighed an entire roof with sunroof and interior trim at 47 lbs, and a factory replacement non-sunroof skin at 17 lbs: Link

The non-sunroof Alcantara headliner weighs 2 lbs 14 oz and the the headliner tension rods at 1 lbs 3 oz. New dome light ~ 4 oz, new roof foam I'd guess at 1 lb? ... (47-17-2.8-1.2-0.3-1= 24.7) Wouldn't net weight savings be around 25 lbs?

You are adding a 17lb Roof skin in, but not removing more reinforced roof skin that came with the sunroof equipped car. I doubt that the 996TT guy ran his car without a skin. I haven't weight all the stuff, I am basing my weight loss on a thread that Gomez started on another forum where he converted his car to a race car.

No, not adding a 17 lb roof skin over the existing roof. Maybe I wasn't clear:

Remove complete roof assembly with sunroof and interior headliner trim: -47 lbs

add back in:
factory steel non-sunroof skin: +17 lbs
Alcantara headliner: +2.8 lbs
headliner tension rods: +1.2 lbs
dome light: +0.3 lbs
sound absorber roof foam: +1.0

NET SAVINGS: 24.7 lbs

I haven't weighed things, but I did see the parts. The sunroof part of the roof (metal only) felt like it was 20lbs, the original roof was heavier then the roof skin it replaced, plus the motor, track, and all the other little sunroof bits. only saving 24.7lbs, I doubt it. I based the weight savings off a thread that Gomez did, and he weight all the parts that came out and replaced it with a CF insert were the roof was. Perhaps the 996 guys numbers were off, who knows my project is done, and I am happy to have a lighter weight, non sunroof GT3.

I bet you only saved about 12 lbs
13 if you remove the afro on the roof in the clearcoat

Van, your weight loss numbers are right in line with 2 other cars I know of. Now, enjoy your "how it should have been in the first place" .1 GT3.

Thanks, I will.

Perhaps one day my car will end up as light as yours will be.
