Could be in between Miata spec racing and Cup spec racing I guess in terms of both fun and cost.
But it would be racing and so it will be more expensive the 4.0 DE.

Drive on ->Sledge hammer feel VS scalpel feel.
Ah! Sorry Peter, didn't know you were former owner Well, I suppose that does offer the perspective I was looking for...lol

I have a 2012 Boss 302. This is an excellent track day car. The engine power and sound is fantastic. If you blow one up, which is very hard to do, a total replacement engine is under $12K. Definitely a fun car...the handling will surprise you!

Ha! These forums are great I tell you! So based on your car list you can certainly offer a comparison perspective. GT3 vs $70k Mustang for DE drivers. Pros/Cons?

Savyboy

Take a look at Hot Laps (You Tube) 2012 Randy Probst driving for Motor Trend's test of the 2012 Boss 302 at Laguna Seca he states the handling is "amazingly good" and it is! TRAKCAR's comment is close.... the GT3 is a scalpel but the new Boss 302 is better than a sledge hammer. Ford Racing put a lot of time into this car and it shows. I raced a 1970 Vintage Boss 302 in HSR for 5 years and that is a sledge hammer! This car out of the showroom is good, I added Ford Racing Brake Ducts, Transmission Cooler and the Boss 302S open grill. That's it! This car is fun and parts are cheap. The motor can take a lot of abuse -- A side note, it does not have a single rattle and I treat her badly! Car comes with a 4 year 50,000 warranty.

Yeah but this is a dedicated built for racing car with probably stringer components.

You sound like Rad trying to convince himself and the world that his Fiat is the perfect everyday soccer mom car and DE tool.

Savy, do not confuse the street Mustang 5.0 Boss and Boss Laguna Seca with the 302S and 302R.

The 302S and 302R are ready for racing, equipped with all safety stuff, non-street legal, and fast. The 302R is running in Grand-Am in the GS class, they're running at the front with the E92 M3, 997.2 Carrera S 9A1 and a Chevy built Camaro track car.

At Homestead the 302R (Grand-Am setup) did 1:26.9. At VIR they are lapping in 2:03. Road America 2:26. Lime Rock 58 seconds. Watkins Glen 2:02.

The fastest GS car at Laguna Seca did a 1:35.9.

The GS class is running on a Continental Tire that really is a re-branded Hoosier slick.

The cheaper 302S is a little slower, I think the 302S is running in the Speed World Challenge.

302S and 302R are vastly faster than the street legal, heavy and decently fast Boss 5.0 and Boss 5.0 Laguna Seca. 302S and 302R come ready for track time, while the street car needs a lot of work.

No confusion, I knew all but the lap times...hence the appeal of the 302R or S

What lap times do GT3's run at those tracks ? (stock 3RS runs ~1:36 at LS in hands of a very skilled driver)

997.2 Carrera GTS 3.8 PDK: $130k
Used Scuderia: $180k

Add $50k on upgrades to GTS, and still trails the Scuderia. Rear seats in a GTS occupied by rollbar, non-sense seats. Fiat trunk is bigger. Fiat has more front clearance for speed bumps and trips to McDonalds. Fiat has street friendly wheels with 5 lugs, can you change a flat tire on the side of the road in the GTS? Fiat engine makes music, 9A1 sounds like a muffled coffee grinder.

When Johannes Van Overbeck tested the GT2 RS and 3.8 GT3 RS at Laguna Seca, he ran a 1:35.5 with the GT2 RS and a 1:37.9 with the 3.8RS.

The PCA Club Racing track record at WGI in the J class was reset last weekend (this is the class where a GT3 runs), it ran a 2:05.

At VIR, Mike Levitas drove a modified 997 GT2 with slicks and ran a 2:05. At the same event, a F430 Challenge on slicks did a 2:02.

At Homestead Grand-Am, the GT class cars run 1:21-1:22, just 5 seconds faster than the GS class cars. In GT, Porsche runs the modified GT3 Cup Grand-Am specs (with bigger wheels tires and more downforce), Audi runs the R8, Fiat runs the 458 based on the ALMS car.

A street GT3 RS 3.8 at Homestead Grand-Am should do 1:27-1:28s.

The turn-key 302R is fast, very fast, affordable, and you're not required to go racing when buying one.

Thanks Rad! Your last sentence is exactly what was going through my mind. No Porsche tax, full cage, fire system, fuel cell, no $equential trans, working diff, AIM race dash, seam welded body, replacement engine for cost of a Porsche exhaust system...etc etc.

Now, who is going to grab this opportunity to buy my 4.0?

$130k for a GTS...what options are you loading it up with?....more like $117k with the necessary go fast options.

$50k in upgrades to GTS?!?!?! Here is all that is needed:
rear roll bar from RSS $1400
harness $500
Coilovers (KW/Moton etc) $4500
Orbit Sway bars w/ drop links $1400
GT3 brakes $3500
M&M (fvd) side muff delete exhaust for large coffee grinder sound that is a must in coffee cup GT3DE series...$1500

with install probably around $13k

Yeah still not faster than your 430 Scud...which by the way sells for $200-230k used 2008-09 models not 150K.

GTS runs and runs and runs more laps than Fiat, owners can afford to fix GTS and not duct tape body parts back together...but soul glo does look better in a Fiat I've heard.
