Mooty won't get 997 GT3 Cup, I talked him out of that silly idea. The 996 GT3 Cup is just 2 secs slower than the last 3.6 997 GT3 Cup around Sebring, but maintenance costs for the 996 GT3 are quite lower.

996 GT3 Cup has manual transmission and ABS, so no Playstation shifter and safer brakes.

The biggest maintenance cost is slicks, but now Hoosier makes slicks. So run a NASA Time Trial weekend in class TTU or TTR, get a free set of Hoosier slicks, and run on either Hoosier slicks, A6 or R6.

For DE, put the 996 GT3 Cup on RA1 (245/305 or 275/335).

3.8RS + 996 GT3 Cup is still cheaper than a 4.0RS, but if all you want is powa!!!, why get a 4.0RS for just another 50Hp over the 3.8RS, when you can get a cheap 996/997 Turbo/GT2, modify it and get another 350 Hp over the 3.8RS.

I like the all motor high rev engines: S2000, Celica GTS, GT3, GT3 RS, 360/F430/458, 599 GTO, Lambo/Audi V8 and 10, M3 V8, M5 V10, Exige/Elise, Integra Type R, not too many engines with 8,400 rpm or higher rev limiter these days.

Don't buy 996 Cup. It is slower than RS 4.0 and suspension is less sophisticated than 997 - you will be disappointed. Better to buy early 997 Cup - they're getting cheap - have Gavin put normal box in with his sequential shifter, then install Bosch motorsport ABS. Now you've got a killer track day car.

Just the two you listed of which I'm aware. Buy Graham's.

Slower than RS 4.0? Hmm, don't know about that one. I'm sure we can find 996 Cup laps times significantly faster than any of the 3.8/4.0 RS times run around here (Like 1:31 at Barber, 1:28 at Road Atlanta, probably a 2:10-2:12 at Sebring) . Granted the cups are on slicks, but we are talking about some pretty big gaps. 996 Cups are no slouches if you know how to caress them right.

The Cup will be loads more fun, and can race, TT and DE and he can still go to DE's in his 3.8 when he just wants to show up and run DEcup.

Larry, we want pictures of your Scuderia, as it sits right now.

Congratulations on the 4.0RS acquisition. We want pictures too.
