Default GT3 vs GT3 RS? Help from the guru's

Hey guys. Long time P-car owner. I currently own a 88 Targa and a Scud and am very interested in a GT3. I have had most every other car Porsche made over the years including most of the turbos. I am huge fan of a naturally aspirated car. If I buy a GT3 assume its 97% street use and 3% track.

Today I drove my first GT3 (2008) at the RUF dealership locally:
http://inventory.racperformance.com/...-Texas/956848/

Not a fan of the wheels on this car but otherwise it was very nice. I LOVED the sound this car makes - finally a Porsche which sounds like it should from the factory. Love how tight this car shifts vs the standard 911. This would be mostly a daily driver car so the clutch petal was firmer than I had expected. Very impressed - for sure the best Porsche I have driven.

I am also interested in this car (07 GT3 RS)
http://www.truspeedmotorcars.com/car...s.php?cid=1951

I'm a big fan of the color and Truspeed guys seem to have pretty good reputation from what I can tell.

So my questions:
1. Any input on pricing on either car? Both seem to be close to the market (I'm assuming neither sells at sticker)

2. Is the RS lower than the standard GT3? If so anyone know by how much? The Scud barely makes it out of the driveway so that's my bar. The standard GT3 has about 1/2" more clearance than the Scud.

3. How much louder is the RS both inside and out? The Scud has no sound deadening material so I hear every pebble hitting the bottom of the car. Not sure if that's similar with the 3RS.

4. I assume clutch pressure is about the same?

5. If you had the choice between the two which would you buy?

I never buy new cars but someone told me today to go drive the new 991 and I would be pleasantly surprised. I suppose since its only 10k more than a used GT3 its worth a look. HP numbers are dangerously close.

1) White RS at Truspeed is the one I would go considering clean carfax, clean ppi, no over revs, no leaks, etc.

2) Unless previous owner lowered or raised the car, GT3 and RS should have same height. They both comes with height adjustable suspension from factory. Keep in mind, RS and GT3 nose is looooong so you will scrape getting in and out of driveways. You can replace the lip easily for around $200 tho. It is considered wear item by most people here.

3) I've rode in both 360 CS and 430 Scud, cabin noise is nothing like those cars. It's a bit quieter but not totally so like regular 911s such as Turbos/GTS. RS has this clutch rattling noise at idle unless you press on the clutch. It is because of lightweight flywheel. People who doesn't know will think something is wrong with the car and your girlfriend will feel quite uncomfortable because of that. Loudness from the outside....under WOT to 8k rpm stock; CS > SCUD > GT3/RS (unless 911s have those by pass pipes).

4) Same.

5) RS just because of that sexy wide hip, resale, and that carbon RennSport wing.

Red GT3 is overdone...the tint and all the red bits. Get the white RS and put sport buckets in it. They make the car look a whole, whole lot better...but the RS is just a nicer looking car to begin with.

I'd go for the RS, if you don't mind the clutch rattle...

White RS 100%

Ride height is same for both.

Scuderia has more ground clearance than GT3.

Love the Blue and gold. No matter what you do, don't get with red. I have a grey with red (african grey bird style), and I'm so happy that I painted everything grey.
Blue/gold
Grey/gold
white/gold

Dfw

Have you considered a .2 GT3? It covers all your bases and you can get the nose lift system if height is a concern. Most here also agree the .2 offers a lot of improvements over the .1 (2007-08) cars.

2.- The Scuderia (the car, Scud is a war missile and no car bears that name yet) has more ground clearance than any GT3 or RS, by a mile.

3.- Nothing is louder bone stock than a Scuderia or 599 GTO. The 3RS is quiet. The new generation 4.0 RS is a little louder, but still quite compared to the two Fiats.

4.- Yes, but 3.8RS suffers from failures. Get a 4.0RS or get a 3.8RS and replace a long list of things: clutch, PP, diff, bushings, mufflers, etc.

5.- 4.0 RS, anything else would make you want a 4.0 RS.

6.- Avoid 991 S for at least 3 years, until they work out the bugs of any new car. Same reason to avoid a 458 Italia until 2014.

OP - your link from Truspeed is picturing a 997 Cup car. That's a whole other can of worms and not street legal.

The white car I originally posted about has been sold. I called on it today - sold a couple of weeks ago. They got the pics mixed up and just now switched them out.

.1 RS is more desirable and worth the price delta if you plan to keep. .1 GT3 offers most of the performance and is probably better bang for the buck. Both are fairly quiet but a lot of the cars owned by members of this board have some sort of exhaust modification to unleash the sound of the flat six!

- The best looking GT3 is the 2007-2008 GT3 RS.

- The best GT3 is the 4.0RS (performance and quality wise)

- The most fun GT3 is the 2004 GT3 RS (other markets), and the 2003-2004 GT3 (if restricted to U.S.)

Everything else is a compromise in one direction or another, within the triangle set by the 3 cars described above, defining performance, looks and fun at each vertex.

Ultimately, no one can go wrong with any possible version of a GT3, as long as it is a GT3.

GT2 and GT2 RS are just faster but uninspiring versions of a GT3, or lightened versions of a Turbo, the lack of personality has affected their resale value, except for the original one, which is one of the baddest Porsches ever made, the 993 GT2.

Be done with it and go for the white 997 Cup car.

Or, if you have to take a step down take the black 996 Cup.
