Lightbulb Interesting PCCB pad discovery

Felt it was time to check and measure the brake pads as I have the PCCB’s. I wanted to be through so I removed the rear Pads. I found the pad material on the outside pads to be 6.4 MM. Inside pad material measured 5.2 MM on the leading edge and 6.2 on the trailing edge.

My original thought was to rotate the pads. Problem is, the brass rivets are showing through on the inside pads! Yikes, I have always read 50% before this will occur. I say this with an understanding new pad material is 8 MM thick. Assumed I could get to 4 MM before replacing. As my PCCB rotors still look band new I think it best to order up new pads.

Dog gone it, really don’t have that many track days on these brakes. I’m thinking steel. Any advice on how much I could sell used PCCB rotors that appear to be in excellent condition for?

I thought new pads were around 10 mm.

I believe 1 at Road Atlanta, 2 days VIR, and I'm thinking 8 at Sebring. New pads could be 10 MM - for some reason I was thinking 8 MM and I could very much be wrong. If 10 MM than my seeing the rivets at 5.2 MM sounds reasonable. I'm glad the rotors are holding up so well. Guess keeping an eye on the pads and all those brake fluid changes pay off.

(thanks Adam)

That's a lot of track time on a set of pads. Especially with 8 days at Sebring! I'd be happy with that much pad life. Although I'm used to replacing pads every other race weekend on the BMW racecar.

Obviously those rivets showing through are killing those rotors. At $16,000 for a new set of rotors I'd never run them out the track. Maybe you have lots of millions in the bank and can stock up on PCCB rotors and pads.

8 days at Sebring plus the other days on the rotors and those pads...dang! Maybe you don't go all out at Sebring...the brake pad killa track....I know I've lighten my braking at Sebring and improved my times but still this track just eats brakes.

Agree. I have a note into Craig for rotor prices. Couple of points in regard to the 8 days. Two of those weekends (4 days) was solid rain. I only drove 1 or 2 sessions at "rain" speed. So I probably should have just said 4 days. And yes, no open wallet here. Car is to valuable to me and I do not push it on the track.

No, for a 2010+ GT3 they are $17,700 for Front and Rear rotors. But they are "only" $17,000 for the non GT cars (Base, S, GTS).

How often do the rotors need replacing if you dont let the warn out pads waist them?

the pads dont even seem to be that expensive (it must just add up due to rapid wear)- http://www.suncoastparts.com/product...e=2010gt3_pccb $350

http://www.suncoastparts.com/product...e=2010gt3_pccb

Anyways from what i keep reading these seem to be best used as street brakes unless you have money to burn
