Default Can this be right? Gen 1 vs 2

Hi all,

Yesterday I got a pleasant surprise.

I raced against my buddy who has a non PCCB Gen 2 RS w/ a reflash and a full Akra system vs my Gen 1 with a GMG center muffler delete, RG5 wheels, PCCB, Motons and guess what...

We were dead even from a 2nd gear pull all the way to 6th!

Okay I may have hit the rev a limit once or twice but the owner of this car is known not to baby his car.

Only explanation is his has only run less than 2K miles vs my 9K and that I got lighter wheels and PCCB's.

I'm feeling good about my trusty pumpkin wagon...:-)

PCCB/Light weight wheels will make a bit of a difference. Unsprung weight makes a difference, what other mods did the other car have? Lots of options could add more weight.

I've seen the same.

Depending on gear and rpm coming out of the corner + less downforce makes for the same straight away speed.

only lap times can really tell the difference.

rolling starts are not really a good test however as an orange pumpkin owner myself i like what i hear.

the .2 has the .1 beat on lap times however not by a massive amount.... a good driver and good alignment/tires can make the difference in a .1.

Pretty impressive

I have found the gen 2 in general to have much better power and consequently speed than the gen 1. And thats the non-RS. So, for your gen 1 to be keeping up with a gen 2 is mighty impressive.

Either you've got a good one, or he's got a bad one, or he's running wild downforce (and you're not), or something. I would honestly think he's probably got a bad one, and maybe the upgrades haven't really added much to the car.

Still, if you were neck and neck till 6th that means you were on the far side of 180mph

Spot on plus the fact that I have far less unsprung weight.

Using the calculations I used before, I saved about 120lbs in static weight from the PCCB's and wheels which in turn translates to a 30HP gain. That's the only logical explanation I can find.

you shifted better than he did.

Go to a drag strip. Just because a car does "X" in the quarter doesn't mean people running that car do "X", some do "X+".

Same car 2 different drivers with a stick, could easily be between .5-1 second difference in the quarter.

Straight line or on a track........driver makes a BIG DIFFERENCE.

Both .1 and.2 are fast. Neither is a family sedan or a Mini-Cooper

I find that the .2 RS is miles faster in a straight line than our .1's. Plus he's got better gearing, so he should accelerate better.

Less weight will help you in 1st, 2nd and 3rd maybe, but beyond that weight is not so much of an issue, more so power.

On the other hand, lighter wheels (and brakes) implies maybe higher whp.

You've got a good car there!

less rotational weight helps a bunch from early on. mileage is also a big issue. these engines really wake up post 5-7k miles.

I have run my stock non-pccb .2 gt3 against my good friend's stock non-pccb .2 rs in the same scenario. similarly optioned cars. he is also a very good driver, better than me . he never pulls me. he has < 2k miles and i have > 5k.

hey bud, we know that the other driver wasn't babying his car for sure...

i'm guessing his car is still pretty tight given the very low miles.

well we'll know Wed night what's up, after the 60-130.

azmurcie will be running his RS 4.0 (also very low miles) and that should be an interesting comparsion

i've got the 60-130 data on the .1 RS you ran at the Mile recently, so we should be able to compare, seeing as you guys were neck and neck the entire time.

see you!

A little help here please, with 2007 gt3 rs are the stock wheels that much heavier than after market? If yes what would be the best and next best higher price first for a set of track tires.

Thanks Allan
