Default 997GT2 Launch control operation

GT2 Guys, I have used the Launch control feature about 4 times and gave up on it because it didn't seem to work. I thought it was because my engine has more power/torque which must have messed up the working of this feature.

I just read the extract below whilst reading over the 997GT2 product info pdf (like you do ) and I realise that when I have tried the launch control I have switched the sport button on first before dipping the clutch and throttle at the same time.

It says below not to press "any additional buttons" - is this correct ? does having the sport button on mess up the whole LC program ?

I will give it another try tomorrow but TBH the whole LC thing seems so stressful on the drivetrain that I decided not to use it anymore but maybe if I have been doing it wrong, the right way may not be as stressful

This is also the first Porsche vehicle with road traffic approval with an assist system for maximum acceleration from 0 km/h. This system, called Launch Assistant in the new 911 GT2, achieves this effect together with the 6-speed manual transmission fitted as standard. The system is activated when the clutch pedal and the accelerator pedal are depressed, without any additional buttons being pressed. The engine speed increases and is limited to approximately 5,000 rpm. The boost pressure also increases to approximately 0.9 bar within a short time. Once these preconditions have been fulfilled, the vehicle moves off at maximum acceleration through the fastest-possible release of the clutch. The Launch Assistant is easy to use and enables the best possible move-off performance that can be repeated easily.

try to avoid wheel hop as much as possible. It kills your tranny and axles.

This is a nice and smooth launch. With this kind of power and grip, if you're not smooth on the clutch out you'll stay standing still with your drivetrain in pieces.

Toby when my car was stock i used the launch control almost evrey single day TC-SC off and almost ZERO wheel spin i was really impressed with the system.. But after RS programing + exhaust the car i couldent get these perfect launches and found out that dumping the clutch at around 3500rpm suited my car best to get a good launch..


*Edit* What sport button are you refering too? is it the Stability control (SC) ?

The damper sport button ? Think I may be getting mixed up with the GTR

So is what is written in the product info incorrect ? does the handbook say it's SC and TC off before depressing clutch and throttle ?

Its clear that our engines produce toruqe way above the targeted torque numbers in the DME in stock trim. I wonder if RS can alter these targeted numbers according to the actual torque maps of their programing?

At least 996's PSM unit is locked, there's no chip that can be re-programmed. And the whole unit is cast in epoxy. Safety feature some kind of...
