Default Odd Toyo Wear

The inside of my Toyo R888's looks really odd. My last set started doing this on my 2009 Carrera S in 18" sizes and now the 19" tires on my Carrera GTS are doing this but worse.

I showed this to my local race shop and they said they've seen this recently on Toyo R888's and I saw this happening on Deputy Dog's R888's he uses for street tires. So this is not just my car.

I had my string done alignment checked and it is right on spot on
FRONT
-2.5 camber per side
.5mm toe out per side

REAR
-2 camber per side
2mm toe in per side

That brings back memories - not really sure what was happening - I thought it may have been showing where the tire got hot to track temps, kinda liquified so to speak, and then re-harded - chemically different - that was my own stupid explanation.

You need to back down the camber on those tires - very hard sidewalls - that inner edge will cord and you will insta hit the wall - please remember this!!!!!!

Try -2.2/-1.7

I was thinking of backing down the camber....how ever I'm probably going to get a set of MPSC which I here like more camber....I'm going to the Michelin site now to see what they suggest.

Those look very similar to my RE11's that I just corded at the last DE. These photos were taken just before they corded :

Those lateral grooves used to "wrap" around the shoulder ... I'm guessing its too much neg camber but not sure.

And after ...

This was on a 997.1-S cab, stock rear suspension

-2.3 deg camber
+0.19 deg toe

Oh yeah - just remembered these RE11's didn't have the correct load rating comparied with PS2's, etc. So maybe the inner sidewall was collapsing under some conditions.

Yeah -2.3 is too much in the rear.

mine are doing something similiar albeit not as severe. i thought thin patches like that on the inner edge was a result of excessive toe...? (i.e. if the wear patch is wider/approx half the tire width, then i thought that meant excessive camber, etc)

driving to and from the track on them?

I had a set of R888's do that on my old 996. Sadly our cars like a good bit of toe in at the rear and some toe out at the front, combined with the proper camber values it's pretty hard on the inside shoulders driving in a straight line.

I left the track once maybe 5 minutes after coming off my last session, nothing cooled down and drove directly home 45 min on the freeway. The next day when I switched back to my street tires I noticed a blister on one of my rears on the inside sholder area where you are having your issues. I attributed it to leaving on already hot rubber then driving 80mph for 45 min in a straight line which is already hard on them to begin with. I try to not drive to and from the track on my track tires now if I don't have to. Did it a few times with the GT3 on PSC's this year and they were fine though.

My RA1's do that also on the inside of the least used tire, so at Sebring the right inside rear wears like that, while the left rear outside wears more then the inside.

Maybe the car just leans too much or maybe too much flex in the rubber stuff. Izzones tires wear a little better with some hard bushings, I might do the same if it continues to be an issue of tire wear with 5/32 shaved still. with 5/32nd I hope there is anough rubber to get them worn down even, it was a bigger issue with the 2/32nd race ready shaved ones.

another suggestion besides the camber is the rear tow arms, if stock, or worn, this will also happen

The best money saving mod I have done......

Tarrett

Toe arms
Dogbones
caster puck
bearing

It has taken all of this wierd wear away

Mike......for what it is worth, Peter and I have found we have to run less camber with RA1 than we uswe to with a NB GT3. 1.6-1.7 is perfect

Rear

Nick your car is like mine......our car holds alignment under load due to solid mount. Our settings are hard to compare to a rubber mount rear car
