Newly Updated GoPro 2 Camera
Hey all you in-car video freaks! GoPro has just released a newly updated version of their HD camera, the HD Hero 2. From what I can gleen so far, it looks basically the same on the outside (I assume this is so that it still fits all the mounts, cases, etc. of the older model), but the guts have been completely revamped and improved.
About time, IMHO. I've never been a big fan of mine, the HD model.
The comparison videos I've seen look pretty compelling. For those of you with a GoPro currently, you may want to seriously consider upgrading to this new one.

Finally, an external mic input! It's a toss up between this and the Replay XD1080. Amazing how far technology has brought us in a short period of time. Remember what the original Hero camera was like?!

Anyone has an idea where to buy the SmartyCam with the ODB-II adapter? It produces video and telemetry all at once.
I'm tired of merging Traqmate data with Sony HD videos at the speed of 1980s PCs.
CDOC and Pegasus sell the SmartyCam standalone, but they don't sell the Porsche kit or the Fiat kit. These kits come with power for the cigarette lighter, the ODBII plug to read the ECU from a specific car, and the SmartyCam camera.

I've already got a huge order placed for these, should ship in a week from what I've been told. I'll check in the morning on how many we have and see what sort of group buy pricing I can do. Normally they have a minimum advertising price, but I may be able to throw in a free mount or something to make up for it.

I've had good luck with the Rode VideoMic Pro on my Contour and 5D MKII SLR, it uses a standard microphone jack and is somewhat compact for the quality it provides (it will still be much larger than the go pro of course, but with an ample audio cord you could mount it wherever necessary to get the sound you're looking for.
I'd also suggest trying a noise reducer on the go pro, or external mic if it's going to be mounted somewhere that wind can be a factor (which is just about anywhere on a car moving at the speed most of our track cars do.
Here's a great article/ test on one available for the GoPro that I've seen work wonders at reducing the noise.

I'm in for a group buy...I have the existing Hero and I use it for snowboarding and cycling stuff, so might be fun to have two to play with.
Or with the car could use one for front view/rear view.

I don't know what wool the cheasycam windscreen is made from, but I do know professional sound guys who collect the wool of Llama, Alpaca and Camels to have made up into their windscreens as it is by far the best for cutting wind noise, I think its even finer than the sort of merino wool used by the Italian and Japanese wool spinners. Anyway a trip to the local animal park might pay off (I wonder how bear hair works out)

GoPro is protected by MAP so can't do a group buy on them.
For Rennlisters I can do them for $299.00 with Free Overnight shipping, so you're first to get them when the shipment comes in. We also keep a majority of the mounts in stock as well for group shipping.
The older Version is available now for $239.00 shipped, can ship immediately.
