So is the trend to go away from the Hans and go with the safety solutions type device? It looks like it would be uncomfortable on the back.

Are you using this unit only because you instruct and the student cars don't have harnesses?

Which one did you get? The rage or the $$$ one?

Andrew- The SS device is far more confortable than a HANS used with the GT3 carbon sport buckets. The OE seats have a very upright seating position and with the HANS my head is shoved uncomfortably forward. The SS Hybrid Pro I use does not do that.

Take Mike up on his offer and better yet call SS and ask them what is current state of the art for your personal situation (type of seats/ harnesses or not, etc).

HANS is sold.

R3 Rage...it was around $550ish I think. For 3 point belts you need the R3 version that goes down the spine for support. The cool thing about the R3 is you can use it in 3 point or 6 point belts.

someone will spun you out.
walls sometimes move into your path.
cup car wheels and axels flew at me (it just fell off, he didn't hit anything)

having saftey equipment wont always help, but one can't have too many safety equipment.
A 996 gt3 puked coolant at 17 in Sebring in front of me.....slid sideways all the way to a foot off the wall

I grew up in racing, most accidents are the other guy. People who track without safety are the same morons that ride motorcycles without a helmet

Week in and week out we would have clients coming into the shop asking for the latest go fast part as they described their desire to track their car and the first thing we ask them is, "do you have a roll bar and harness planned for this car"?

This is the first thing we stress to anyone who plans to track their car, even if just a few times a year because as we have all pointed out, anything can happen.

I have been racing since 1994 on a Pro level and I have seen it all. Luckily I had the proper safety equipment even back then but now when I instruct for an individual in a street car, I am hesitant to go out in a car without a roll bar and harness.

One blown tire, one oil patch, one errant driver.......that's all it takes to put you off course and into a wall/barrier/another car.

A roll bar combined with a harness is probably the most important track car upgrade you can make if you choose to track your street car. The bar lets you properly mount a 5 point harness so you are securely fastened in your seat in the event of a roll over. The performance advantage is that you are pushed down in your seat with the harness and you can get a better feel for the grip levels of the car due to less movement in the seat.

In the end, we can only recommend the safety equipment for our clients and lately most have agreed to the upgrade once they realize their upgraded GT3 goes almost as fast as a Cup car.
How important is a front cage section?

If u have money to pay for track time, u have money for safety equipment

I was just going to buy Hans CF, as it seems the norm for all my friends, but might consider SS. I have sport buckets, and wonder if the Hans is annoying with that seat....

very good question, as having the front makes for very compromised street driving.

Sort it out by Friday or I flatten ur tires

I'm a Hans fan, but biased since I did my senior design class in college with the professor who patented Hans
