Centerlock failure

I doubt if he did it incorrectly but I know anyone can make a mistake.
I don't really know him but talked to him at the same event as I want to buy a GT3 and have been talking to everyone who owns one. He had the proper tools and described the procedure- it's the primary question I ask because it's one of the big fears I have about the gen 2- should I put $ in the budget to convert to 5 lug.
He gave his honest opinion about the good and bad points of the car; he seemed careful about his car, he's a smart guy and he's a very good driver (he and his mate were eating up the red run group). Why he hasn't commented here I don't know but I would not be surprised if Porsche paid providing he shut up about it.

Potomac region made it a policy to check the lock on all CL wheel cars after this event...this was not a failure....it was an error...the only one that knows for certain is the one who put the wheel back on...

Of course not. If the nut is torqued up there is no problem. The locking mechanism is just a backup. But since there is only 1 nut (and not 5 bolts), 1 "of them" coming loose for whatever reason could lead to disaster, as with 5 bolts you still have 4 remaining to hold the wheel, so better safe than sorry.

Here is the END OF THE STORY:
I misread the specs and was torquing the nuts to 600fp instead of 600nm. I over torqued them.
The left rear fell off going into T1 at SP and the car just sat on the wheel/tire after destroying the hub and wheel center. Bent control arm, crushed a plastic air duct, chipped the PCCB rotor, etc.
I took it to the dealer and Porsche sent reps to look at it. Porsche did a vehicle and component inspection, interviewed me (where I admitted to 600fp and not doing the torquing with vehicle tires off the ground), did a consultation with subject matter experts, suggested the most probable cause for the subject center lock failure was the cumulative result of:
"Vehicle owner / driver routinely not following published procedures and specifications for center lock hub tightening, and routinely over-torquing center locks to 600 ft/lbs."
Porsche was there for me and made me whole.
As an additional matter, they showed me the other three remaining hubs that were starting to strip at the ends of the threads and recommended replacement immediately - for which I paid the dealer to complete.
I love my GT3. I have loved all my Porsche's and I will forever have one (or more) and will keep buying more of these -- the worlds greatest car.

The honesty is very refreshing.
Glad to hear everything works when used as instructed. And very glad to hear Porsche was there in the end to sort through the matter.
A win for everyone involved, including every reader on here with center locks.
Thanks for bringing us closure.

+1
thanks for closing the loop on this
Good story, good support by Porsche. I'm sure your honesty with them was a factor. Good to see them reward it.
There's hope after all!
