So I signed up for the S.F Porsche World Roadshow US out at Candlestick Park last friday and got to drive (amongst others) the Boxster Spyder and Cayman R (PDK) cars ...

I was totally blown away by the performance and handling of both cars, and the R sounds particularly good ... not a GT3 but a great "2nd car" perhaps

The event itself lends little opportunity to "really" test the capabilities of the cars but it was fun...

there are three more events scheduled: Chicago, NY and Atlanta ... worth going along to if you have a hour or 2 to spare.

It was interesting to drive all the different cars back to back as well, especially the coupe to cab difference. To bad they wouldn't let you take out the GT2 RS that was there.

Yeah that 2RS was pretty sweet! I really thought the Cayman R was cool ... would like to have tried the GTS also.

Agreed. Fun to see the GT2RS. The Cayman R was great on the autocross, though.

I found interesting that PCNA was using the rare 'Detroit Auto Show' PTS Spyder done in Meteor Grey / Red to have thrashing around the Autocross course, where it got much abuse. z356 (Carmel)

I was out of town then but 2 of my friends who don't track and don't have Porsches went to the PBIR event.

They loved it and are now both looking to buy a Porsche, so these events work..

it certainly did ... it was amazing ... although I think the R had it beaten ever so slightly!

How much time do you get to try out the cars?

The closest event to me is a few hours away, so I'd need to stay in a hotel, etc. Just wondering if it would be worth it..

The autocross course was a pretty quick drive, but I went away thinking I liked the R better than the Spyder...

4 laps on about a 1 mile "track" in 4 different cars (all PDK) and the same as a passenger as well. I lucked out, after the first lap the guy I was with had to bail so I got to drive all the laps. Then 4 laps around the autocross. If you were considering buying one of the variants it might be worthwhile.

It would be worth it for you if signed up for the 12pm session so you could drive two hours do the event and drive home without the cost of hotel.

It was cool driving all of them back to back. I seamed to like the spyder in the turns better than the R. Maybe it was the spyders lower CG and weight. Could feel the R had little more power. PDK is much better than Tiptronic but I will stick with stick.(no pun int.)

I did LA event so drove on auto-X type course and the infield of CaSpeedway. Plus street drive. So if the event you are going to is at a track then go and have a good time. Nice of Porsche to spend the dollar to let people hammer down in the cars.
