RS 4.0, I Have a 3 Hour Window to Decide
#31
I think the 4.0 will depreciate MORE than the previous RS's. Why? Because it's too expensive relative to it's predecessors. The car is 35% more expensive than the car it succeeds, for 10% more power. It will be eclipsed down the road by newer, faster variants. While it may look like good value compared to the new speedster, or even the GT2RS, don't kid yourself - there will be plenty of downside financially. If that doesn't deter you, go ahead and buy it. Best.

2) Unless someone has seen it in writing from Porsche Directly do not believe the 130 car number. These are things whispered to the press but never substantiated. Porsche will likely build more. See the MK 2 RS for example. Up here, dealers sold more RS than regular GT3s.

Not withstanding the 2012 4.2L - I think it was a joke rumor started by TRACKAR - The 4.0 will be the last and best of the 997s. As such it will have a special place and will always be more desirable than the other GT3 versions. Assigning $$$ value to this is anybody's guess.

No joke, I called Peter and he disclosed his source.
It's valid.
It will be 4.2L and it will be so limited that it will include 3 nights at the Four Seasons etc..

I agree. There will always be a better one around the corner. There are no "keepers" unless you can wait at least 20years in pristine low milage condition. Buy/lease em, have fun with them and then move on...

I disagree.......
Drive the crap out of them.....in 20 years restore
How many 70's RS cars are you asking how many track miles
Buying a RS, putting in the garage is a huge waste of money.
If you want a 200k garage queen buy a vintage porshce

I too never lost money on an early RS (only had one), but that was then, and the 4.0 is now.
Enjoy it, drive it today, because tomorrow you may be gone.

The 2011 4.0L will take a hit as all cars do. Especially when the the 2013 GT3 is released.
If you are concerned about the initial hit, then wait a year to buy a used example.
Personally, i love the 997 platform and would love to have a 4.0L instead of my 997.1 as my keeper for next 20 years.
If the 2013 GT3 is not winning over any hearts, then your 2011 4.0L will depreciate slowly like the 993.
If the 2013 GT3 is a world beater, then your 2011 4.0L will depreciate like a 996..............................
