10GT3 - I am one of the whiners. Went from an 07 RS to a ten RS and have done 50 track days. Change tires at the track. CL are a pain in the *** compared to 5 bolt wheels. Special tools, special lube, need a second person on the brakes to torque etc. If you can show me an improvement over the five bolts we had before I am willing to listen.

I'm on the whiner wagon as well as I think is no secret. 50 track days last year and I nut and bolt the car at least every other track day. Much much rather have five lugs and zip lugs on/off with impact gun.
CL are pretty but a royal PITA for trackrats.

As mentioned earlier, $5 says the update will be the big "600Nm" printed on the face... I wait to be proven wrong... I won't be running out to replace my two sets because if they are dangerous, Porsche are obliged to replace them...
As for the whole whining part... Well yeah, they are a pain in the *** IMO... and yes, i am an owner... They deliver none of the ease of change of wheels and weight savings they promise yet introduce a number of new issues...
If they were purposeful, we'd be allowed to use rattle guns to remove them like cup cars etc... We aren't!! They'd also make changing wheels faster, they don't with the whole tighten, loosen, tighten routine off the ground... Lets not kid ourselves... I can't remember the last time a cup car team did a wheel change the way we have too
Brake rotor changes are far more expensive thanks to the added hardware "needing" to be replaced...
And for the average joe who may want to change his own wheels, you've got to shell out a crap load of cash for specialised tools or somehow get your car and wheels to/from dealer... Ie "mission impossible" and my dealer is 10km away....
They are another marketing/we-did-it-first statement, not nessarily one that was well thought out because they figured the average owner has got some $ and will buy his way around the problems...

Ok then, I'll concede that I am a member of the informal "CL Whiner's Club", as I too have done over 50 trackdays with the CL's on my GT3. The name of the club may not be perfect, perhaps it should have been "the true track loving mechanically inclined heavy CL user's association", the informal name is much shorter and to the point, so let's stick with it.
We should perhaps formalize this some how and try to get to some official resolution with Porsche AG. This maybe done more effectively on the PCA GT2, GT3 and Cup Car register as there are direct ties to Porsche AG (SavyBoy?). Note that this register did not exist when everyone went through the "LSD fun" at our own expense.
So if the "squeaky wheel gets the oil" (this should be our Club's mantra), let the whining continue and continue hard .......
Page 38 of the (marketing!) book from Porsche AG for the new GT3 titiled: "The New 911 GT3, from the inner sanctum", I will quote directly....
"The advantages over a conventional five-hole screwed fitting include better driving dynamics and performance thanks to fewer rotating masses and, of course, faster wheel changes. A huge advantage - especially when racing."
What a complete load of marketing fluff!
Another of my two cents.
Cheers!

I see where you guys are coming from and can understand the frustration. I just don't let it bother me and see it as a "special" part of the car. Sure it can be a PITA sometimes and more expensive, but no use losing sleep over it. I enjoy my car.

Now that we covered the "faster wheel changes" aspect, let's shed some light on the weight savings remark.
Can one of you gentlemen weigh the mechanism, to compare it against the
95,7 grams x 5 plus 21 grams of the plastic center cup of the old setup?

Ps. I was never able to understand the concept of weight savings when comparing 5 small studs to one big chunk of metal regardless of what it may be made of...

Well since all you guys now have CL's and can't use your nice new battery powered impact gun....I'd like to buy a newish well cared for battery powered impact gun to use on my 5 lug bolt lowly Carrera S.
thanks!
thanks!

There's always an entrepreneur standing ready to profit from someone else's misery. Mike, you win that role today!
...and for the record, I am a member of the CL'S club. To the best of my knowledge, there is no technological, weight or psychological advantage to them as designed and implemented by Porsche.

I dont believe anyone has even attempted this ... minimally it would be an exercise in PET parts bin engineering and not even clear if it is at all possible.
