Michelin Super Sport versus Bridgestone RE-11
Any thoughts especially on the track?
I burned through the OEM Pirelli Corsa systems in 2800 miles and now have a used set of MPSC on (thanks to a RL'er). My GT3 mostly sees track (20% road), but I don't want to shell out $2K every few track days. I am not a professional driver and I'm not setting record lap times, but I value performance.
Would you pick the Michelin Super Sports or the Bridgestone RE-11s? Why?
Thanks.

I know the RE-11's are a heavier tire, but I thought they were great on my old Cayman S. Sticky for a non-R comp tire and lasted me almost the whole season. The one thing I didn't like was that they were very loud at the limit, but at least they were communicative - you could tell when they would give. Hopefully, someone who has track experience with the Super Sports can chime in as well.

I had the RE-11 on my GT3, and liked them very much. Never had the pilot super sports, but had the ps2 on other cars and the RE-11 is the gripper race tire of the 2. Lots of feedback too.

Thanks Sam for the RE-11's - currently on my 997.2 GT3. I am enjoying them a lot. Versus the PS3's, I like these more - but that was on my 997.1 GT3 RS.
I am a MPS fan, but these RE-11's have swayed me. For the value, it's an easy choice - I am not out to break any records either, but value performance. Can't go wrong with either.

I went from Corsa System to RE-11 on 19" street wheels with my car as well. I found them very "squirmy" at first, but once the treads wore a bit, they seemed fine.
They pale in comparison to dedicated 18" track wheels running R6.

kyrocks, try a set of the Super Sport; as long as you dont track them, if you dont like them you can return them within 30 days for a set of MPSC+ replacements as per the Michelin PROMISE gaurantee.

I tried a set of MPSC today on my car and loved them. Great performance, turn in, and sticky. I'll see how long they last. I'm very happy with them. (no rain though)

You mentioned rain. The RE-11's were quite amazing in the rain.
I have a highway to drive to to get to our local track. I could only drive 90km/hr on my 996.2 GT3 with my MPS PS2's in the pouring rain. I was very surprised how easily I could drive my 997.2 GT3 with RE-11's in the same conditions at 125km/hr. Living in Vancouver, I would easily go back to these for replacements. The Tire Rack Ratings are interesting as well,...

I data logged the RE-11, R888 and Pirelli Corsa at the same track. The Corsa System (235/285 x 19 OEM Scuderia tires) were so slow, that I still consider them among the crappiest dot-r compound tires.
The interesting data came with the R888 (235/295) and RE-11 (245/285), they were both as fast as each other, but the RE-11 are fast from the get go, and they last forever.
I replaced my Cayman RE-050 with RE-11 and the Cayman became faster. I even ran two SCCA Solo National level events partially on RE-11 (235/265x19) and brand new Hoosier A6 (285/285 x 18). The RE-11 were slower but still within 1.5 secs per autoX lap.
My latest test on RE-11 was at Sebring, first day there I ran RE-11 (245/285 x19) in the Fiat, and the last session on Hoosier A6 (295/345 brand new). The RE-11 were just 1.5 secs slower despite of being in narrow wheels and being heavier tires.
No experience with Michelin Super Sports. I won't believe in that tire until I see the SCCA street tire classes running MPSS. It is in the SCCA crowd where I found the initial info on the RE-11, as well as the Dunlop Direzza StarSpec Z1, Yoko ADV-08, Hankook RS-3, and Toyo R1R. For heavy cars (like our cars) the RE-11 and the RS-3 are the street tires of choice.
PS2 are massively slow compared to RE-11. PS2 is a little better in the rain, but the RE-11 is good in the rain as well.

I am not sure that the MPSC are covered by the Michelin "Promise" guarantee... however if you purchase Super Sports and you return them you could exchange for MPSC.

The Super Sports are drawing rave reviews from some of the One Lappers. A guy in a Gt3 RS did some testing yesterday at Beaver Run and pulled his fastest lap times there ever. Only problem is that they only come in 305's right now for the rear.

Interesting. Was the RS a gen 1 or gen 2? I have gen 2 and was looking into fitting a 305 rear - I read somewhere that a gen 2 RS at Sharkwerks was fitted with a 305 rear but am trying to verify this.
