Default Torque multiplier vs new BIG torque wrench?

Missed my 996 GT3 enough that I will soon be getting a new to me 2010 GT3- reading all the threads about centerlocks and wonder whether to get a multiplier to use with one of my old trustie torque wrenches or to get one of those big beasts? Any suggestions?

I have never used a multiplier. But the tooltopia torque wrench works beautifully.

Go with the big-mamma

i like the big torque wrench from tooltopia. comes in a nice case and you can take it apart. i would be worried a torque multiplier has too much variance in applied torque.

I've actually used both. I bought a huge Snap-On bar, but it was on back order for quite a while. In the mean time, I borrowed a multiplier from a fellow CL owner in the paddock. It was so much easier to use! It made me want to cancel my order. But, naturally, my Snap-On bar came a few days later.

There are a couple of drawbacks to the big bar:

You have to be careful of the mirrors when working on the front wheels. I've already bashed one mirror with the breaker bar! Ouch. Remember to swing them into their park position before you start.

The Snap-On bar is one-piece and comes in a big red plastic box. That box is a very snug fit in my car, what with the 4 point roll hoop and all. The torque multiplier is extremely compact and will easily fit in the frunk.

I agree the breaker bar is a PITA. For torquing tight the CL, I think the big wrench is the way to go. It breaks down nicely into 3 parts and the case fits in the car. Perhaps the "ultimate solution" if the multiplier to loosen and the big wrench to tighten. Best of both worlds.

My concern with the multiplier is lack of accuracy when tightening.

That's me! Good to hear from you, Kent. I'm moving to the Dallas-Fort Worth area in July so let's get some PCA events in while we can!
