The RGT-8, V8 911...
I adore 911s enough to currently own five of them but I am not blind to change. This is the Ruf RGT-8 with their own V8 in the back, it is allegedly lighter, mounted lower and makes 500bhp so what do we think? Sacrilege or progress for the better? The GT1 block is gone now (bar the RS LE) due to running out of capacity so is this the answer?

I think it's an amazing piece of engineering. High 8500 rpm red-line, lighter weight, lower CG and more Power (550 hp) all while retaining the rear engine position. A home run IMO.
More specs:
550 hp @ 8500 rpm
367 lb-ft @ 5400 rpm
Titanium connecting rods
Dry sump lub
Also its a flat crank V8 so you know the sound at speed would be amazing.
Direct Injection is coming on a later version so it would be halfway economical.
Who would be opposed to such an improvement if this was in the 991 GT3?

any chance Porsche uses Ruf as test bed to float ideas?
I know they have a decent relationship, or at least I think they do...
If Prosche is reading this thread -- drop the LE on us already so we can all get past it and head in the RUF V8 direction but keep it attainable pricewise... IMHO, if you take the GT3 variant base price too much further north, I am out... and I am not buying a non gt variant for track/street use and I am not spending north of $140K base...

The article i read about the Ruf RGT-8 said that Porsche and Ruf have close relationship considering most manufacturers do not appreciate "tuners" like Ruf. Since Ruf is much more than a tuner the article made it seem like Porsche was more than just interested in Ruf's cars.

Yeah, excellent and all that, but... it's not a 911. A 911 is a rear-end mounted flat 6 car. Anything else may look like one but it isn't. I know many will disagree. True old-time Porsche fans will not.

although Porsche is slowly going the direction of mid engine placement and possible v8 power in order to keep up with the competition with the 911 brand....
Will this mean that soon our 997s will become highly valued purist cars like that of the 993?

True old time fans will say watercoolers aren't real 911s too!
