"Disappointing" is too generous -- my thoughts revolve around a word like "abysmal."

And keep in mind that Ferrari delivers their "prepared" cars for the journo's.

If anything it's a slam dunk to the GT2 RS ... the only car to show up to the "mech warrior" battle with a real man's gearbox six shooter.

I wonder what time a GT3 RS 4.0 would put in for that comparison?

+1 Adam, it reads like one big advertisment for the new 4.0.

Indeed a GT3 RS 4.0, given its discount to those tested...might even be construed a "bargain"

Its so disappointing only because McLaren set themselves for enourmous expectations. They loud and clear said that it was going to be better than anything including the 458.
The fact about it being too clinical and soulless relative to the Ferrari is a matter of taste but it was supposed to be a much better performer (lower weight, more power, more tech, etc.). It is still a great car but what a PR fiasco for McLaren (almost as bad as dealing wiht LH! .

WOW!! Just unbelievable. Ron claims that the care is the best car in the world and that it will destroy other cars in its class yet it can't keep up with a Lambo or the Ferrari. Pathetic!!!! Just absolutely pathetic. There is no excuse for it!! MORONS!

?!?

Just wait until Weissach installs a PDK in a GT2 and it blows the doors out of anything around.

I'm not in the market for this car but I have been quite interested to see how it fairs against its more traditional rivals. The hydraulic failure reminded me of something that seems synonymous with owning a Land Rover (and for anyone who does and who hasn't had this problem, I apologize), which has been described to me as having more problems than other vehicles in its segment. Perhaps a sign of things to come? I hope not...I see Ron as being far too **** to let this continue, even if it means revamping the entire project.

Right! If ever there was a 911 crying out for PDK, it's the GT2 RS ... imagine the performance of that engine mated to a gearbox that overcomes its limited rpm range as well as allowing it to remain wide open throttle and full boost with no reduction in power, just the leap forward as the clutches swap and the new cog answers the call to proceed unabated.

Much as I find the 4.0 RS an appealing successor to the 3.8 RS (I don't see it as a meek, polite "goodbye" to the decades of the Metzger 911's or the 997) I think the 4.0 "god like" engine and the 2RS engine both deserve a PDK connection to the ground.

We shall wait and see. Too bad will be a longer wheelbase, but performance-wise it will decimate everyone else.

It seems as though the test car and the pre-production orange car raved about a few months are vastly different for whatever reason.

of course, great comments on the Porsche from the driver... something we all already knew (its the only car in the group in which you could do hard laps all day long)
don't forget, that Porsche was simply plucked off the assembly line. That Ferrari had Ferrari engineers testing it for days on that track before it was released to the car testing public.

what impressed me the most was the Lp560 - convert(IIRC it is the SL convertible). That think is amazing. Too bad it is at the end of its cycle and will most likely be replaced in 2013-14.

McLaren making excuses, you would think the Stig would have noticed if the suspension was off. There must be some idiot light telling you the hydraulic suspension is not functioning properly. He only made comments on the traction control being too intrusive. Every Formula 1 team has used the term "hydraulic failure" as an excuse in one race or another for their car not performing according to expectations. Well get over it Ron Dennis, this is not Formula 1. Your car is not sorted out yet.
