Here is a mod I found most satisfying.
Kept my 997.1 GT3 stock and bought a 2000 Boxster S Track car.
It gives me great pleasure to catch and pass a GT3 in my run group. Admittedly when they are well driven I don't stand a chance, but now and then...

New guy here. I thought this would be the most appropriate place to ask my question with regards to purchasing a 997.1 GT3 for a weekend HPDE car. Basically, is it necessary to purchase the RS version if the car will frequent the track? To help define frequent - around 5-8, two- or three-day events a year with the car being driven to and from each track (located in the northeast).

Apologies in advance, I'm combing the forum to read as many track related threads to help me understand the track capabilities of the non-RS version.

Tough to answer because really any sports car will do for a DE. GT3 of any kind is one of the best for that purpose.

Okay, thanks. Considering your answer it sounds like there's no real need to go for the RS version. I wasn't sure if there were true pros and cons to the non-RS vs the RS. But considering that I'm not racing I guess anyone would do.

Great thread I'm so glad I stumbled onto this as I'm still learning about the nuisances of each 997 variant. Here I was just going to settle for a regular C2S as my first Porsche then visited the dark side and saw the Sharkwerks 3.9 GT3RS...

Please forgive me for this noob question. What does LWFW stand for? Also, does anyone here drive their GT3RS daily? Being that I have always driven lowered/slammed vehicles I'm used to driving at an angle up driveways and wary of road conditions. Not sure if other folks would be like me and not to bothered by it.

LWFW = Light Weight Fly Wheel, which the RS model has stock, but you'd have to modify to get on the non RS model.

Also, wish Porsche would have brought the RS version of the 996 GT3 to North America. I love how the car they tested on BBC Top Gear looks in Red. Generally I don't like the overall look of the frontend with the headlights but something about the RS just makes all that melt away. Further from what I've seen some people prefer the 6 GT3 do to the lack of nannies and the fact it takes skill to take it on.

But just like Pokemon, Gotta have them all... I wouldn't mind having any version of the 3!

Thanks! Just doing random searches on the interwebs and it seems the consensus is to step into .1 RS as modifying/upgrading a standard GT3 is fairly expensive. For example I'm not a fan of the "taco" spoiler and to replace it would be quite pricey. 13k if i'm not mistaken?

One more question regarding the .1 RS...Only the Euro spec has the plastic rear window correct? Apologies if I missed that earlier in the thread.

Only Euro spec has the plastic rear window, correct.

Regarding non RS models, so long as you're OK with a sunroof on your GT3 (I'm not) in the 997.1 vintage, there are plenty of great non RS cars out there, and they are admittedly better values overall. I do prize the RS in stock form myself, but for the money the non RS is a tremendous value. For 997.1 RS money you could get a 997.2 non RS, and that is also something to consider.

Default 2010 gt3 (non-RS) vs 2011 gt3 (non-RS)

I am in the market for a 997.2 GT3. From the research I've done, there doesn't seem to be a large price difference between the 2010 and 2011 non-RS models. I have done a forum search but it appears that most threads deal with base vs. RS platforms. Could anyone list the differences between the 2010 GT3 and the 2011 GT3? Appreciate it.

I don't think that there are any differences between a 2010 and 2011 GT3....both have the updated .2 suspension, CLs, 3.8 motors, LED tail and front lights, etc. Good luck on your search.
