Differences 997 GT3 vs 997 GT3 RS
Hello,
What are the differences between the 997.1 GT3 and the 997.1 GT3 RS? I know that (at least in Europe) the RS is lighter, has a half cage and different seats. But I suppose there are more differences? Are there any major differences between the RS for the American and the European market?
Also, what does the 997.2 RS give you that the 997.1 RS doesn't (except 35hp and new looks)?
I tried to make a search for these questions but without success. And yes, it is probably me that is incompetent I would really appreciate if you wanted to write here or if you could tell me where I can find the answeres to these questions.
Thanks,
Karl

.1 Gt vs RS not much diff
.2 RS vs .1 RS renders the earlier car non competitive. More tq better gearing better stability. Diff on paper is meaningless drive the two and I'll b surprised anyone would take .1 over .2 if price didn't matter.

Of course sir slow is being both multilingual and ironical. The GT3 vs RS vs .1 vs .2 debate is one of the longest and most knotted threads here -- perhaps second only to tow vehicle, radar detector and tire compound debate.
I think the only "new" factor to consider is the secondary market price compression -- with all four of these cars now in much closer price range, it's somewhat easier to rationalize you're way into the .2 RS and a lot easier to talk yourself into a .1 GT3. Of course, operating costs (insurance, maintenance, parts) all still reflect the new MSRP, so there's no free ride.

.1 GT3 vs .1 RS: Wide body, LWFW, plastic rear window, bigger wing, decals (maybe sunroof delete).

If you look at price delta's of all the GT3's and RS The RS.2 is a no brainer with 3+ years warranty.
As Mooty said the .2RS is the only one that is really faster then '04->'08
Plus over the the GT3.2 you get:
LWFW
Ti exhaust
The right seats
DEMS
Big wing
Wider front fenders
Wider rear
Big airscoops, brake light in ducktail
Bigger rear tires
Better gearing
RS CF inlay in dash
Door pulls
Door pocket delete
Cupholder delete
A steal really..

In all seriousness it costs much more to retrofit a GT3 to the same level of trim as an RS. The CF wing and deck, plus the flywheel will cover the price delta when new. The gap is even closer when you're talking pre-owned.

here, this is very simple. it is MUCH cheaper to buy the RS even at over msrp.
b/c 90% of the ppl will buy GT3 and mod it and cost you a lot of money.
dont mod, just buy the next level up.
why, b/c i threw away a big house in nor cal (u know that price) doing it.
but hey, human beings are intrinsically stupid. we will continue to mod and stimulate the economy. we do this over and over again. look at ME ;-)

Couple additional notes:
997.2 GT3 RS vs. 997.2 GT3:
1. RS has the same front fenders as the regular GT3 and even Carreras (misinformation above).
2. RS gets tacked on fender fender flares with matching wider corner lamps. These parts can be ordered from you local Porsche parts department and retrofitted on any 997.
3. RS gets .5" wider front wheels and 10mm wider front tires.
4. RS gets 20mm wider rear tires on same size wheels with different offset.
5. RS reduces 44 lbs over regular GT3 if you get the A/C delete option. With the same options, weight difference for US spec cars is negligible if you don't.
6. RS gets PDEM and sport buckets standard, while they are options on the regular GT3 (about $4k). Hence the real cost difference is about $16k ($20k - $4k).
8. This time around, neither car gets a sunroof.
9. RS gearing is shorter with a 1 mph lower top speed despite 15 hp increase over the regular GT3. Whether the gearing is better depends on the track you drive. Hence why these transmissions have a variety of ratios for every gear available for racing applications.
What mods? The suspensions and brakes are the same. If you are going to buy Motons, you are buying Motons. If you get a set of track wheels you get 9's and 12's anyways as they fit inside the non-flared fenders. My only mods for the track are modifying the track arm bushings, adjustable end links, an alignment, a rollbar and harnesses. I would have to do the same mods on an RS. Despite the Titanium center muffler, most of the RS owners I know still put center pipes on their cars.

==> u are one of the more cerebral GT3 drivers. i said MOD's, not USEFUL mods.
1. as you stated the cost b/n 2 cars are "almost" 20k and it takes about that much to make GT3 similar to RS, not that you need to. but if you did, you need about 20k.
once parts become more obtainable, you will see many getting RS wing as well as ring and pinion. that is easily 10k, agian not needed. but i have seen many do that, just look at .1 cars.
soon you will see ppl getting door cars from RS. why? no reason. that's another bunch of money. some must have split control arm for the rear as well...
they add up. not needed, but many will do it anyways.
