from jalopnik.com

Germany's Nürburgring is the world's automotive playground.

A public park for gearheads. Sadly, it's been handed over to privateers who've put the entire 'Ring at risk.
Michael Frison of 20832.com explains why we need to save the Nürburgring!

Well ain't that the ****$?

Why would they have to **** down the ring? I mean who would foreclose on it? Even if they did close it down they could just flip it on someone else.

Also, they need to have some rich MM and MB step up to the plate to help out. It can be done, further really need to bring the privateers up on charges.

This track needs to remain in the hands of the public and Joe Isuzu, I mean Gearhead.

They could save the ring. Put all of the VW's official Marks name behind the title of the ring. Heck they could make it Tue German "GoodWood" and do some manufacturing there. Plenty of space for certain.

as far as i can tell, save the ring seems to be code for save our rear ends. perhaps thats why there seems to be a shortage of details being given by those involved.
no thanks!!!
they have had the curtain pulled back and will now be removed. the creditors will then move it along to a new owner/operator to recoup exposure. hopefully one with what would seem to be a bit more acumen than the current lot.
the ring doesnt seem to be in any immediate danger, only the management is.
now if we are at the end of that whole process and there looks like a ring is in danger issue arising, perhaps a prospective buyer has other development ideas then come get me but not just now thanks.

Here's my post from other forums when this comes up, so apologies for the cut'n'paste....

I'm fully mega-supportive of the 'ring, having been there for well over a decade (watched several 24hr races, done Scuderia Hanseat several times and driven a lot of laps). However, I don't use Facebook so couldn't support that I wanted to.

That said, from looking into the situation in detail it appears that the facts are as follows:

The 'ring is still owned by the German Govt, but was leased to a new consortium operated partly by Lindner, who then built all the pointless buildings/attractions in the clearly mistaken belief that people would come to the 'ring as a destination rather than because of the two racetracks.

The company didn't have adequate funding, which an intermediary lied about and hence the local German Govt has intervened having to lend 250m euros to complete the developments. As a result of this a local Govt minister has resigned. Also the Dorint group is suing the local Govt, since the contract for the new hotel was awarded without an open tender process, despite them expressing interest.

So where does this leave things from a logical perspective? Well they are funded, but will in all likelihood go bust at some point, since it's clear the new developments are adding little revenue. At this point the main lender is the local Govt who also own the freehold of the 'ring. So if they call the loan it all falls back to them. They'll lose some money and it'll all carry-on as usual. The 'ring is the only reason the entire local economy exists, hence why it has always operated, even when loss-making it was subsidised. 'Doomed to close' is a ridiculous statement without any foundation.

It's great that we're all aware of this issue now, but vague suggestions from Sabine about 'issues' and a Facebook group aren't going to change what happens as this unfolds, particularly when it is unclear what the actual 'issues' are.

What I'd prefer if we going to mobilise the 'ring regulars is that that they do the following:

1. Abolish the stupid card used for buying food there.
2. Change the food back to proper german food, not crappy burgers.
3. Sort out the carparks at the NS, by massively enlarging them.
4. Stop people parking in the carpark who are not driving there.

Thats my 2p.

Guy
