Everything IMO

the "save the Ring" appeal itself , facebook, the hidden agenda..

I cut n paste my post from the racing forum:

“As much I love that place, I cannot support something like that.
This story involves opportunists, crooks, money and politics and surely we don’t have all the angles of it.
And over facebook of all places!

People there knew what was going on for years and everybody pretended that everything was ok because money was flowing in with the tourists.
Land values went crazy hi, people made fortunes; even car manufacturers joined the frenzy.

Sabine is cute and a great driver but also runs her other business there.

The ring will be unaffected at the end of the day.. Places with such dynamic and aura always prevail, on the other hand Germany and Europe have a lot more important problems to solve before we all go down in flames.
Now about them I am not so sure of the outcome.”

if i change my facebook profile image to a pic of the ring will it save it?
lol, i love a good facebook campaign! they solve everything just by clicking "Like"! idiotic.

Instead of an entirely car themed mall, make it into a real mall so the car geeks kids and wife/husband can spend lots of guilt money to make up for their crazy expensive hobby. i'm all for this and would actually make the place less dead.

I'm with Guy on his suggestions.

Thats my 2p.

Guy
ring card is retarded when there is a top up station to put money on it right next to the vendors necessitating staying in 2 lines to pay for ****.

60's style Rte 66 US Diner at the ring is bad, very bad! the burger is horrible! is that even cow?

at least pave the overflow parking. parking deck would be cool, but i guess there would be problems with scraping. funny thing is this would have easily added revenue at low cost especially when everywhere else in europe charges for parking.

the big problem is the place is dead in the winter. i say make the NS the worlds largest Heated race track and keep it going all year long. either that or build one hellova tarp over it.

GuyR and Slow: Thanks for the clarification. I wasn't clear if it was the FB appeal or the entire situation that you had an issue with. Carrering put it best: Clicking FB appeals are idiotic. There's nothing to do but hope it all comes to it's logical conclusion, which I agree, will see the ring continue to operate as it has for years.

I have watched th development of all the hotels, the mall, casino, rides and attractions over the last few years wondering how the relatively few events there VLN etc would ever result in profits for the developers...

It extremely sad that this mess has resulted; the nordschleife is unique, if you have never driven it, go drive it asap, or STFU... There is no other racetrack like it in the world, it has an amazing history and should be saved if possible for the future so that individuals can experience it either with a club or on a tourist day ...

I doubt that either local or federal govt will allow this to happen, since it would be an economic disaster for the region, and a disaster for the automotive world, hell even cadiddlydac in the US use it in their advertising and I doubt any prospective customer has
A clue!

For anyone that has an interest in motoring history or performance driving should care about this IMHO

Another pointless petition, do they really think the EU is even remotely interested in what is a very minor local German issue? Also they would not possibly have the powers to take away an asset from a company that had been legitimately acquired.

A very naive and misguided effort IMHO.

Stuff like this is what makes the 'Ring not the special place it used to be...well at least for me. I started going there in 2002. Back then, to me, it was pure. It was the true Green Hell deep in the Eifel that you wouldn't know about unless you were a gear head. Now when I last visited in Sept 2009 it was a tourist 'trap'. There were a lot of my German colleagues that wondered why the gov't/state had to bail out the build up project to keep it on track. The 'Ring has lost a lot of what I found made it the awe inspiring story it had always been. It's too commercialized, too big, too much.

I'm just glad I got to enjoy the 'previous' Nuerburgring/Nordschleife and the mess it turned out to be remade to.

I agree with one of this reporter's biggest points!

I sure as hell would of been happier with a bigger lot with better entry/exit lanes and a bathroom that was bigger and better maintained at the trackside bistro!
