Default 997.1 RS or 997.2RS

I am new to this site and have enjoyed everyones comments. I am a PCA national instructor and am a bit of a track rat. I am ready to step up to an RS from some of my other track cars, but is the 997.2 worth the extra money. Yes, I did see that beautiful green 997.1 and have been looking at a local 997.1 in orange. BUT I really like the look of the new blue with the silver.

I would love to hear your real thoughts!

Yes the RSII is better than the RSI but is the delta in price worth it??? the jury is still out on this
Both are true track queens

In all of my years of instructing, I have not had a student with one for me to drive. That would be the best way to see how they handle...etc...

I was at Sebring this weekend in my 997.1 and TrakCar was there too

I was passed on a straight by him.....the gearing and power difference is pretty big. He woudl pull pretty hard on me .....and take teh corners at a much high rate, well this is somewhat due to him being a better driver

I am sure that is the reason....he is real fast, I felt kind of good when I got the point by form a 997.2 RS .....

Horsepower does help, but on my budget the 997.1 is just fine (and looks awesome in green)

Being a track rat I would imagine that you would upgrade a lot of parts like suspension links even if you get the Mk 2. I guess it all depends on your cash flow and willingness to burn it.

Had a 996 GT3 an 07 RS and now a 2010 RS. Performance wise there was no difference between the 996GT3 and the MK 1 RS. The RS was more versatile but not quicker around he track. The '10 is faster that the 07, about 2 seconds on my home track 1:48 versus 1:50.

Worth it? You decide

Had 6 or 7 996 gt3, couple .1RS and .2 RS. BOB
took all the words out my mouth

Let me add a bit more though

If u got .1 then may not worth upgrade due to price delta.

If u don't have .1 now, then .2 RS is worth every penny

More tq
Much better gearing

Equal driver on stock cars, .2 is no brainer. If anyone disagrees then they for sure havent driven enough mileage in these cars.

Tom, since you currently do not have a 997 GT3, you should get a 997.2 GT3 RS. I think the engine is very under-rated at 450 HP, and the gearing is shorter (better). Porsche got the suspension tuning right on this one. It is a very special car.

See Izonne's cooments. It is not easy to catch another car from behind and pass him on a straight. That points to higher corner exit speeds, more HP, and better gearing.

I am certainly surprised by the overwhelming difference and opinions concerning these two versions of these cars. I would suppose that I need to find the .2 in blue. I just prefer that color on the car.

Now, where is the best place to find one. I was at a tech session at my local Porsche dealer on Saturday and will not be receiving any new RSs as they got their allotment. Are there any forum dealers that people go to more than others?

I think it is about $20K. The 997.2 will have a longer warranty, and less mileage. I think it is worth the $20K delta.

Mooty - You still have your RS?

All of these cars have so many options, but they also have the lightweight Lithium battrey. PCM on a GT3 RS? $150 Garmin will do fine.
