Tell me about mooty's car. It would be good to know if it is available.
By the way, if I need navigation to get around the track, ummmmm
Hey Roberga, that looks like turn 5b at Pacific in your avitar. Cool.

at a $20k delta it is so worth pursuing the .2 IMHO
3.8 vs 3.6
gears
warranty
if your budget allows, you get more back for your $20k than you will get in the aftermarket adding $20k to a .1....
.1 looks better and does not have centerlocks ;-)

Buy C.J.'s or Mooty's car while they are weak and confused, wrap it blue, add roll bar and you have .2RS for about $20K delta over .1RS.
You get:
3 years warranty
right seats
right gearing
3.8
more downforce
better suspension, don't know why, but it's faster.
titanium exhaust (that will brake, but see warranty above)
OEM screens in the front bumper
little better brakes, although more expensive to replace rotors..

The major suspension difference between 997.1 and 997.2 was the roll-center change facilitated by the Dynamic Engine Mounts. Here's a prior post with full details:
"My sense is that most reviews of the 10 GT3 understate the changes to the suspension. One test that contained a more thorough detail of changes was published in 911 & Porsche World magazine. If you search online you'll find part of the article but not the full suspension change detail covered in the magazine itself. The comments on suspension changes came from Karsten Schebstad, who works with (for?) Preuninger and is in charge of Development of Performance GT Derivatives. I don't have a scanner to post the whole article but an abbreviated summary of changes noted includes:
Altered pitch, lowering the front 5mm and raising the rear 4mm.
Raised outer bushing and track rod end locations on front axle 10mm (in line with GT2)
Reduced agility of front axle (considered too excessive) by lowering front roll center from 94mm to 55mm and raised the rear from 24mm to 30mm.
Overall roll stiffness unchanged but ratio front to rear changed significantly (from 49/51 to 43/57) by making front anti-roll bar 30% softer and rear 30% stiffer.
Front toe-in reduced from six minutes to zero.
Negative camber slightly increased at front and slightly reduced at rear, by 10mins in both cases, making it minus one degree, 30mins all around.
Damping characteristics changed to increase initial response.
Rear damper bushings stiffer.
Stiffer springs.
Again most reviews only picked up on the anti-roll bar and spring rate change. I can't speak to the validity of the everything listed above but the source seems credible."
Other than that it's the gearing. Get the 997.2 RS.

Hey Tom,
If you don't have an RS by the time next years track activities start up perhaps you can arrange to instruct me and try my GT3 (it would at least give you some general feel for the breed).
Good luck on the search although I hope this doesn't mean the GT40 stays in the garage. It's a beautiful machine to see out on track although the exhaust fumes are very strong when behind it.....

Hey Kieth, that is a great avatar! No, I have been working on making it better each time I take it out. I have new uprights coming as the aluminum ones flex. I am also looking at puting on some R compounds before next season. I will also start to lean it out a bit so it isn't so smelly/ rich.
The RS is something that I fell in love with when the .1 came out and now, seeing the blue and silver really stired my soul. Kind of like when I saw the GT40 the first time.
I'll be glad to take you up on your offer of driving your car. Our first track day next year will be April 21st by the way.

Just added the date to my calendar, hopefully the weather will cooperate! Back to your question, I'd read up on the threads re. peoples frustrations with the centerlock design for the .2. If your planning on changing wheels alot that may kill your enthusiasm for the .2 cars. Pros and cons either way, wish I was in a position to have to make that choice!

C.J., I sent you a pm/email a couple of days ago. Obviously you didn't get it. Must be operator error on my part. If you could send me info on your car, photos, price, etc... and what part of the US you live in, that would be great. In the pictures, what I thought to be the silver, must be the gold. You can contact me at my email at tom@centuryroofing.biz. I would like to see your car.
