This Porsche 997.1 GT3 to fell victim to the infamous coolant pipe failure while out and about San Diego and it was towed back to our shop to have the coolant pipes welded.

Any recommendations for a shop in south Florida that can do the job; either pin or weld. Preferably in dade or broward county. I know of a shop or two but wanted to see if anyone has a experience with anyone particular. Thanks.

Orbit? Worst case have shop pull the parts and send them to be welded and test....

Also, for those with 997.2 cars, we had one let a pipe go (confirmed pipe blew) at the track the other day. Car, driver, other drivers/cars fine, just a lot of steam and a lost track day. Very aware driver pulled off track immediately.

This was actually investigated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administrations it seems. In the final report (link below) it states the following:


"In response to ODI’s Information Request letter, Porsche identified a manufacturing quality issue with the supplier’s application of adhesive to coolant pipe fittings that resulted in elevated failure rates in approximately 6,800 early production 997 generation vehicles (MY 2007 and early MY 2008)."

So, YES...Porsche themselves admits sh!tty adhesive process. It states that by the 4th week of January the process was automated to ensure proper application of the adhesive. So if you have a March 2008 or later build date then you are supposedly in the "clear"


Water Neck part# 997.106.039.72 and 997.106.039.90 are most prone to failure. Apparently due to seeing highest temps of any of the coolant fittings.


Even though closed...people should REPORT these failures to NHTSA. Especially if in later production 08 and 2009 vehicles (since they claimed it was fixed) especially if driver control of vehicle was lost on public roads. If you were on a track, it doesn't apply.

====> i can tell you conclusively this info if false
2011 RS 4.0 failed
2011 GT3RS failed
2010 GT3RS failed
2010 GT3 failed

that just my own cars. and there are many other cars that my friends own also failed.

Not here to say this is fact or fiction. I am just reiterating what Porsche responded to the govt. People should continue to report this to the NHTSA if it is occurring on public roads in stock vehicles.
If it happens on a track or to a vehicle with simple bolt ons then Porsche has washed their hands clean of you.
