mikymu great thread as always !!

i just want to ask will this fit in my 997 gt2 ? because im having the same problem you had 2-3 shift and feeling that shifter is a bit mushy if you know what i mean. Im also changing to a lwfw and clutch so i was thinking of doing this too. What do you think ?

You are welcome. I am almost 99.9% sure your GT2 shift cables are no thicker than my factory RS setup. You can e-mail my service manager Jim Webber at jwebber@niello.com to be 100% sure

Sounds good. Let us know how it works out once you have it installed

As mentioned the cup shifter is amazing to upgrade as well as the cables... I have both in my GT2, and it's fantastic.. Not as short as the 997 GT3/RS shifter in throw, but it's just perfect for me, love it.. Thanks for the pic's and details once again, love your threads

Positives:
Race proven part that was designed to work together with the cables
Less rubber more metal parts than the 997 shifter (better than the 6 one with the side reinforcement plate). (the 7.2 GT3 shifter is even better)
Precise
Very robust Feels unbreakable
used with cup cables 2 to 3 and 5 to 4 vagueness and hesitation gone

Negatives:
Longer throws (from what 997GT drivers are used to similar to the throws of 996gt3 oem shifter)
More expensive
Transmits more noise and vibration due to lack of dampening

I tried both 997gt3 shifter with cup cables and cup shifter with cup cables and I really liked the cup shifter much more.

Can these be retrofitted to 986/987s, too?
