Mike I have tried the cup cables first with a 997gt3 shifter and then with the 996 cup shifter. There is a BIG difference. Try mooty's.
About vibration I can't comment cause my car is vibrating so much from exhaust that I can't even feel earthquakes below 6 Richter scale.

LOL
Very good suggestion John. I will get the 996 Cup shifter if I have more issue with the linkage.

When shifts like 2nd-3rd are baulking, try "pushing the shifter from behind" then pausing at the gate to let the springs line up the 3-4 centerline, then pushing forward. This will take about 2/100th's of a second longer, but it does prevent misalignment. I make this shift with my thumb and finger together to make a sort of Y fork. You could even shift with the knuckles of your fist to remove any sideways action on the shifter. Shifting with a dead hand on top or a monkey grip "choking" the shifter tends to take away feel (such as feeling for the syncro's to confirm the gear speeds are matched) and can lead to misaligned baulking at the gates.
Having watched a friend "money shift" this past weekend, I think it's worth talking about shifting. : |

shifter is a work of art and it was about $900 -- I would do it again...
Cantrell puts these in the cup cars that he supports in place of the standard cup shifters from what I was told. I can only compare it to stock which I think is very good, I just do not like plastic parts in the shifter/cables dept.
I guess the only "unorthodox" mod is the KN intake... the rest are all run of the mill standard mods (rss, guard, brembo, cup cables, brake ducts, clubsport bar, rennline, etc)
