Default Looks like the Christmas Tree .2 RS in Scottsdale has had a make-over!

I guess the folks at Penske Scottsdale heard the discussion of this car at this forum. Or just watched the reactions of most who saw the RS at their showroom. In either case, they changed the accents from red to gold in just a matter of weeks. Spent some $$$ on the painted wheels, mirrors and sides of the rear wing. Wonder if they will declare that to the prospective buyer? I don't remember ever seeing a dealer do this (re-do of factory painted parts that are not damaged in any manner) on a brand new luxury sport car at this elevated price point. It shows how concerned they are about selling it soon, perhaps in light of the number of .2 RS unsold in dealer stock across the country. z356

Why gold? Why not just black? Gold and green would look odd too. Mike

The gold doesn't look bad to me. Black would have been better. Red was simply awful.

I agree that black would be the way to go. Do you think they went with gold because they contacted Porsche and had some stock gold RS wheels and bits sent over asap? Probably overnight FedEx.

Default Black Accents was the way to go...

I don't think Scottsdale went through the expense getting new 'gold' wheels from Porsche. This was a simple paint job done by their in-house shop or their neighborhood sub-contractor who they feed all of their car paint business. I agree with all (so far) that said black was the way to go. Here are the two reasons why I think that:

A) Black accents are proven to look better with RS Green (which is what this exterior color appears to be, rather than Signal Green), as we know from the previous generation RS Green .1 997 gt3's, which is a classic. So Scottsdale would know exactly what it would have looked like and black on green is a known winner. Gold on Green is a crap-shoot. They have gone from bad to..., well, you fill in the blank.

B) Black 'factory' accents cost a fortune ($7K+) when requested on a .2 RS. Gold 'factory' accents cost nothing. So if you are going to the trouble of getting rid of the 'factory' red accents, the smart play would have been to paint all of these highly visible parts in glossy black. That gives 'value added' to the vehicle. Around $7K+ worth! Add the black .2 decals and you are done.

Scottsdale missed an opportunity to correct their initial mistake and make this RS a memorable & unique vehicle. Shame. z356

Black for sure. Green on it's own is not that great a colour. With the black accents, a la .1 RS, it is a proven winner, so that's how they should have gone.

Gold is one of the stock choices so there might have been some $$ consideration (if they did exchange and not a local paint). If they did do a local paint, they missed an opportunity to go black. As has been said elsewhere, PTS + local black paint is the way to go, and seems to be done more than we think.

BTW, with "all" the .2 RS' out there, and with the limited number of stock colours, PTS seems to be a very smart thing to do... if you care about such things.

In actuality, they had/have a grey/black car that had gold wheels and winglets so they juat swapped those parts out and painted the lips to match. The grey/black car with the now red wheels still has the gold GT3RS sticker on the engine cover.Classic example of greedy dealers specing these cars out for thier own potential gain at the expense of the enthusiast customer who would have been happy to take the allocation and spec to order but for the attempted gouging over msrp price. What goes around comes around!

I saw this car with the Red accents when I was there a couple of weeks ago.
Gold must be better then the Red but like most everyone else black would have been the way to go on this. I'm sure they had a set of gold wheels. I highly doubt that the dealer painted the parts.

Honestly, I think that you should do it. One of each would be pretty cool.

FFaust: tcsracing1 already has two RS Orange .1 RS's. The green .2, should he ever get one, would be his third RS! z356
