Default Advice: WTB 996 or 997 GT3?

I am a long time Turbo owner (3) and have had my 3.6 Turbo for 10 years, and sold my RSAmerica (DE car) two years ago. I am seriously considering selling or trading the Turbo for a GT3 (+/- cash). I am a much bigger fan of the 997 GT3 body work. My budget would likely be $80-90K, which looks to get me into the 07/08 model year. The other option is to go to a 996 GT3 and put some money into modifications etc.. Both seem to have some issues with RMS leaks, and the ceramic brakes can be an issue too. Can anyone help me with what the real advantages are to the 07/08's, and is one year that much better than the other? I would plan to continue a few DE's each year, and then just country / mountain road fun with other p-car guys etc.. Thank you for helping this old air-cooled guy out!

The 996 GT3 is more in the spirit of the RSA. It is a lot less refined than the 997.1 GT3 because of its lack of stability controls. This is why I love it. It is the tougher car to master. The 997.1 GT3 is more usable everyday and is more planted on the track. Your choice - both great cars.

I posted a similar thread a while back

Now that the GTS and next rendition of the 911 will be out I don't think 415 hp will really cut it so I am waiting to see what happens.

As Bruce Anderson would advise: Buy the latest model your budget can afford.

I love driving both.....the 997 gt3 is more balanced, even with computer aids off.....it's much easier to go much faster.

The biggest advantage, in my eyes, to the 997, is that it's absolutely beautiful. The lines are perfect.....the 996 gt3 to me just looks like a regular 911...the 997 has presence.

We have a couple VERY clean '08s, and would be happy to consider your 3.6 Turbo in trade.

I love that rear wing! He certainly does have an aweful lot of great cars at this shop to say the least.
