Driving to DEs vs Towing

I have been driving to Road Atlanta and Barber for the last 5 years. About 3 1/2 hours to each. The drive to RA is all back roads thru the mountains. About as much fun as the track time in the GT3. I have had some 'moments' with MPSC's though with rain and ice.
I did stop at Chattanooga Porsche dealership in GT3 this spring, on the way to Barber. I was looking at a Cayenne GTS for towing and DD. Salesman said I would be a "Baller" if I towed GT3 with GTS. Cracked me up.

FJP,
I saw several Cayenne tow rigs at Putnam Park, pretty cool.
A baller? I presume this wasn't Hennessey...jeez!
Guess not...if I'd read your email more thoroughly I'd have picked up on the Chattanooga part.
duhhhhh

A simple car trailer is the way to go. A couple of recommendations.
Featherlite makes a great aluminum 17.5foot trailer, tows great.
Race ramps make a foam ramp that you can use to get the nose up to the trailer ramp.
Macs Custom Ties downs have the best soft tie downs that go thru the wheel to tie the car down. Just moved mine and it takes 10 minutes to load and tie down.
What if you break and also this allows you to run race tires.
Just my 2 cents

those who know me, park FAR away from me
those who dont know me, will..... after i crush their race car... i really wanted a dually, but during the test drive back into the dealership i almost wiped out an entire row of GMC trucks... you have to understand that the biggest car i ever had was M3
the place i park it at is a large shipping company's yard. many semi 18 wheelers coming in and out. they get tired of watching me backing it up so they just park it for me. what takes me hours (appears to be a small space to me), took them 1 try, 2 min and they told me it's a LARGE space.
see pic attached. noticed the ENTIRE parking lot is empty? my friends know better.
with you open trailer and GMC (is that a duramax or gasoline) you can do 150mph ;-)

Stu,
Great trailers by Featherlite; my last open was a 3110, 16'? You're right, tows like a champ. Thanks for the suggestions on ramp mods and tie downs.
Scott,
Yes and YES! Which car were you?

Mooty,
I've seen a few TPDs; mostly west of the Mississippi river.
You left-coasters have access to all the cool stuff! Not sure there's a dealer here in fly-over country that represents TPD.
I'll trade you towing instruction for a few hot laps in your latest Pcar...cheap too, just airfare and housing!

Scott40,
Started spectating at MidOhio during the original IMSA back in the days of the 934s/935s, DeKon Monzas, turbo 320i, and Carl Schaefers outrageous Camaro.
I do intend to hit that track eventually for a DE, but I've got more rust to knock off first.
KYPCAs event was my first time at Putnam as well.

Terry L and Canuck,
I'm very aware of Trailex, kinda used to 80" width though. They seem to be really proud of them based on price tho. Easy to move around by yourself eh?
All,
GREAT trailer advice, but we're getting side-tracked here; the thread's supposed to be helping me with tips/ideas on driving the GT3 to and from the track for DEs WITHOUT the tow rig stuff!

hold off from towing until really need the benefit of a tow........
once you begin towing, eventually the car becomes more "stripped" and soon not even street able anymore....
then comes the cup car senario.... to cup or not to cup... that is the question...
